So,

I'm following the New Year, New Army trend by starting an Imperial Guard army, and my friend is continuing his old CSM army...

...I want to crush him.

My question to you guys is, which is the most potent and efficient way of dispatching heretics with an IG army?

Thanks in advance

Erm, is this an actually serious thread?

You can bring so many more guns to the table than CSM it's unreal, you shouldn't really have too much bother with them.

In fact, take some LRBTs and at least one LR Executioner (with plasma cannons), and some heavy weapon teams with lascannons and autocannons to take care of Obliterators and transports, respectively.

Field whatever the hell you want, chances are that it'll still be better than what he can bring to the table.

Your basic LRBT can blow holes in:
Basic CSMs
Chosen
Berserkers
Noise Marines
Plague Marines (who are often mistaken for being straight T5, when they are actually T4(5), so your Battlecannon still splats them)
Bikers
Raptors
Havocs

The following will splat if they fail their invulnerables:
PA Chaos Lord
PA Chaos Sorcerer
Possessed Marines
Thousand Sons

Don't fire your battlecannons at:
Terminators
Obliterators
Daemon Princes
Daemons (lessers are T4, but only have a 5+ invul, lasguns can take them down, and FRFSRF will be deadly if you face them)

Since the former two have a 2+ AS, the Prince, whilst only having a 3+ AS, is EW, and the latter is essentially a T4 model with a 5+ save.

Against their vehicles, autocannons can reliably kill off:
Rhinos

Which is lucky because Rhinos are the only transport available to Chaos outside of Land Raiders, so you'll be seeing a lot of them.

Meltavets can take care of the rest.

Meching up removes any sort of power Lash of Submission has, leaving Obliterators as the only things you really have to worry about, so take a few demolishers (which can help against terminators too) or meched up melta/plasmavets to nuke them down. Executioners also work.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Excerpt from "Seeress of Kell", Book Five of The Malloreon series by David Eddings.

Yeah, this is serious, I've just always been a modeller, painter and fluff-nut rather than a gamer, so I didn't know what to expect

So heavy weaponry (las and plasma etc) do the trick, from what I gather, and tanks.

Avatar 720 nailed it. Tanks and as much guardsmen as you can get works well for me (with commissar and Command squads for orders) or Melta Vets and tanks can blow apart marines, Chaos or no.

Pretre: OOOOHHHHH snap. That's like driving away from hitting a pedestrian.
Pacific:First person to Photoshop a GW store into the streets of Kabul wins the thread.

Pretty much sums it up. Take as many Ap2/3 guns as you can, and you can take ALOT of them. Take things to get him out of his transports and viola! easy victory!
