So my buddy wants to start playing 40k and really liked the look of the eldar. Whats the best way to go about starting a 1000 point army. Is the battleforce a good buy for him? whats a good starting list? keep in mind he hasn't played 40k since 3rd. Thanks in advanced dakka!

I actually started 40k by purchasing 2 Eldar battle forces. I then added another war walker to round out the squad. The real goodies in there are the 2 wave serpents and the 2 dire Avenger squads.

The only things that are lack luster are the guardian defenders. I had 20 and converted 10 into storm guardians and bought Dire avenger heads on Ebay for a steal and turned the other 10 to Dire avengers.

with addition of a farseer and possibly a heavy support tank or fire dragon squad you'll have a very nice 1k point army.

Should look something like this

Farseer

10 Dire Avengers
Serpent

10 Dire Avengers
Serpent

3 War Walkers

Fire Prism/Night Spinner

Ha Ha thanks I will let him know. He bought a farseer with 3 warlocks today too so all he needs is another war walker and another BF lol

With a warlock this squad composition works quite well and can be made with just a few extra bits from the battle force guardians.

Warlock- Destructor
10 Storm Guardians- 2 Flamers (127)
Wave serpent- Scatter Laser (115)

This gives you 2 fast flamers and a psychic power that acts as a heavy flamer. Paired with doom it can really mess up a lot of things. I love it for toasting troop squads on objectives in cover.

Don't be fooled though it is a shooting unit not an assault one. Just rely on the flamers to do your damage as guardians tend to falter in assault.

Also a good way to use the Warlocks your buddy picked up. I did the same thing as i started as I loved the model and fluff.

My mate runs a decent 1000 point list, won him a few games recently, he runs with:

Eldrad

10 Dire avengers-exarch
Wave serpent-spirit stones

10 Dire avengers-exarch
Wave serpent-spirit stones

Fire prism-spirit stones

Fire prism-spirit stones

sorry it isn't detailed, and I dont know of any other upgrades but that's the models anyway, something like this is fast, but also has some serious hitting power from the prisms.

hope that helps

Calv
