Rumors are Empire after the VC release in Jan. Then after that, it's kind of a mix of WoC/Dwarfs/Brets/WE/Lizardmen

Mostly this. 2012 brings VC, Empire, then it's either WoC or Dwarves, then the other, then who knows.

I base my information on that provided by Harry from Warseer as he is rarely wrong on release schedules.

So in a nutshell, Lizardmen prob won't be updated til 2013 at the earliest.

Thanks for answer. Yeah, its really hard to be sure just from rumours. Well, i think starting the army is not that bad idea, because im not patient enough to wait for a year hehe.

Lizzies still work pretty darn well in 8th and only have a couple big issues;
- sarus cav are over-costed by alot
- steggies are nothing beyond giant targets for cannons, so only engines are decent for character mounts
- pit of shades and purple sun are easy turn 1 insta-wins against the army.

Still, anyone who abuses the pit/sun on turn 1 is likely a dick you don't want to play against anyways, and the other 2 are annoying more so in competitive play as they slightly limit your choices.

Look at it this way as well, you get to keep your large pool of magic items into 2013 or even 2014! (all the new books are thus far limited to 8-10 or so items, most of which are 40+ pts!)

I agree about playing them now while the getting is good. I hate the new watered down magic items lists. They take away unique aspects and combos from armies and force everyone to take the same old crap. The O&G magic items list doesn't have hardly anything useful.

Lizardmen army book has been released February 2009. Compare that with Bretonnia 2004 and Wood Elves/Dwarfs 2005 and you get the priorities.

Yah, but reading that, my jaw dropped at seeing WoC ahead of...just about anything. They got great models. More units than the next 5 army books put together and multiplied by a zillion. I mean, the only thing I can think of is consolidation and simplification. Like with Chaos Dwarfs.

But it's not just rules, but models. I kind of think of army books as a chance for them to release updated models (and they make much more $ there). WoC are popular and rake in money. So are Liz. I think Dwarfs are popular, they just need rules changes. I rarely see Bret or WE.

To be fair, those two issues are the same for every army, even 8th edition books.

Yea the cannons that only 3 races have, and maybe skaven too but their cannon tends to be unreliable.

I agree with the the lizardmens, but I think that only some units should be re-costed and special characters made viable.

LM special characters suck.

And yeah, WE needs an upgrade badly. At this rate, they are gonna be like the necrons of WHFB (pre-matt ward, of course)

Look at the Ogre characters. there are 2 that are pretty meh, one thats ok, and 1 that is such a steaming pile of rhinox that even the Sabretusks won't let him near.

Special Characters are the guage of the flaw in GW's design process. They either become so massivly overpowered or are utterly worthless.

Sadly, I don't forsee good things for LM characters.

She's one of the few characters thats just right. Her, Grimgor, and Throgg are like special characters should be. an interesting and useful option, but not one that is just sooo good you MUST take it.

IMO: 40k has the best special character setup. Many of them change the way your army is setup, almost none are overpowered(many are underpowered), and they all are competitive with the unnamed character choices. I don't know of any 40k tournaments that ban Special Characters. and if anyone says Mephiston please take a reality pill, he has NO invuln and is not immune to Instant Death. Make him eat plasma or a Force Weapon.
