Hey folks,

My group of friends is getting together for another 40k day coming up early in January - and I've been working on a couple of lists. We generally run 1000 and 1500 point games, and we randomize opponents. So I could be facing: Space Marines, Tyrannids, Space Wolves, Orks, Chaos Space Marines, Imperial Guard, or GK's.

Here's the 1000 point list that I think I'll be using... I wanted to get everyone's take on it.

[HQ]
Librarian w/Plasma Pistol - 115 pts

[Troops]
Tac Squad ML/Flamer, Power Fist - 195 pts
Rhino - 35 pts

Scout Sniper Squad w/Telion - 125 pts

[Elites]
Ironclad Dread w/Heavy Flamer & Melta - 145 pts
Drop Pod - 35 pts

[Heavy Support]
Predator w/Lascannon Sponsons - 120 pts

Predator w/Heavy Bolter Sponsons - 85 pts

[Fast Attack]
Land Speeder w/MM & Heavy Flamer - 70 pts

Land Speeder w/MM & Heavy Flamer - 70 pts

Total: 995 pts

The Ironclad and Land Speeders will give me the ability to get right in my opponent's face on turn one to cause some damage. The scouts will be sitting on any objectives/being a general nuisance. Predators sit in back to deal out firepower where needed.

Not sure what to do with the last 5 points. Also not sure what to do with my librarian. He won't fit in the Rhino with the Tac Squad. Any general advice and/or specific advice about the list would be greatly appreciated!

I'm working on my 1500 point list. I'll edit this thread once I've figured something out!

Well, my first post seems to have generated quite the response!

Nonetheless, here's the 1500 point list that I'm thinking about. Any feedback on either list would be appreciated!

[Troops]
Tac Squad ML/Melta - 175pts
Rhino - 35pts

Tac Squad ML/Melta - 175pts
Rhino - 35pts

Sniper Scouts w/Telion - 125 pts

[Elites]
Assault Terminators - 200pts
Land Raider Redeemer w/MM - 250pts

[Heavy Support]
Predator w/Lascannon Sponsons - 120pts

Predator w/Lascannon Sponsons - 120pts

[Fast Attack]
Land Speeder w/HF, MM - 70pts

Land Speeder w/HF, MM - 70pts

Total: 1500pts

I think that Chaplain cassius is a great HQ for 1500.

Personally, never a fan of the dual-role land speeders but a lot of folks like them so its up to you

Its a pretty solid 1500, although I would drop the LRR and take the librarian back in (although without the plasma pistol, as its a bad idea) and use gate of infinity on the 1st turn toget your assault termies closer. Risky, but means you save 150 pts and can sqeeze in something else

^ this is wrong.

I'm going to offer you a cheesy option, than a fun option.

Cheese:

Dump Cassius, get Vulkan, another predator and drop the Speeders

Simple as pie, you'll piss of your friends though.

the fun, Make the LS multi-melta/Typhoon. Drop the scouts.

That land raider is a good scare tactic. It will scare anyone who's not a BA player for the first three turns, while they waste 1,500 points of firepower on it. Then, you drop some termies and smack heads. A LR is even more powerful at 1,500 than three are at 3k.

Why Redeemer over crusader?

I like the lists actually. Although I'd still rather a librarian with no plamsa pistol

I also love the lists, very adaptable. As for taking the redeemer over the crusader, I'm with you on that one 100%. When you throw extra armor and a multimelta on that guy... there isn't a glance result that ruins your day short of a 6 (immobilized). It takes four weapon destroyed results to keep it from wrecking someone's groove in a huge, S6 AP3 way. Its a true monster.

Riddle me this: what has four sides, moves twelve inches, and moved fourteen?

I love how my advice is 'wrong'.

Vulkan is good, and since I play salamanders -its in my sig by the way - I always agree he's a great choice. This however is not my army, and the OP has taken Cassius, and that is not a poor choice by any means

As for redeemers, the post above mine here has it all - immobilised. If a redeemer gets immobilised in your own half of the board then its useless, so for me they are not the best. I have one, and have played it numerous times but it just doesn't work for me. I find that gating assault terminators at 1500 is a viable tactic, as your opponent has to deal with them or they get mashed next turn, in which case your advancing tactical squads go relatively unscathed

Thanks for the responses everyone!

I'm featuring the Land Speeders because I just bought two of them. I'm going to be using this session to test out how well they work.

I've used the Redeemer almost exclusively as an Assault-Termie-Delivery-Device. Its hard to argue with those AP3, S6 Flamestorm Templates. I just bought Cassius, too. I think that he would be a good addition to the Assault Terminators when they pour out of the LRR. 4+ invul, 2 wounds, T6 (so no insta-death), FNP and with all of the benefits of a normal chappie.

I agree that my Librarian from the 1k list is an HQ without a home. I honestly have no idea which unit to attach him to. It goes against everything that I know about Librarians... but perhaps I should attach him to the Scout Squad and use Smite and Gate of Infinity? This would give the Libby some ranged firepower and it would give the scouts the ability to run the hell away if enemies start to close in on them.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I am curious about using Vulkan. He is probably going to be my next HQ purpose.

But if I were to use him as my HQ, wouldn't I want to KEEP the HF/MM LandSpeeders? Regardless, thank you for the feedback!
