I noticed that they all happen to have been released around the same time, and are all the third game in the series. There were also a lot of other similarities which I'll put under the spoiler text since they have to do with the endings of the games.

DO NOT read this if you have not played MW3 and you intend to. I'm serious about what I mention happens in MW3. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Spoiler:

One of the biggest ones I remember is at the end of Modern Warfare 3 and Gears of War 3. Both games end at the top of very tall hotel buildings which were/are intended for the super rich and/or important. (1) You then fight your way into massive lobbies and take elevators to the top. You then get attcked while on the elevator, which eventually gets destroyed and forces you to climb to a second elevator. (2) After that, you are unable to reach the top of the building, and have to fight your way to the top. (3) Once you get to the top of the hotel, you fight a dramatic battle in which you kill the main antagonist. (4)

Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3 both include fighting against/with Russians in Paris. There are also large numbers of people killed by gas attacks. (1) You also fight in stock exchanges in New York and Paris, which both look very similar. (2) There are also devastating WMD attacks in Paris, although in Modern Warfare 3 the attack is chemical and in Battlefield 3 it is nuclear. (3)

Finally, Modern Warfare 3 and Gears of War 3 both feature the death of an extremely important main character about halfway through the game.

As a discussion grows in length, the probability of a comparison to Matt Ward or Gray Knights approaches one.

As someone who doesn't play FPSs except for zombie zombie they're all the same.
The differences between them are virtually nil to the casual observer. Superficial differences in control, maybe. They all play like boring action movies anyway.

Ever thought 40k would be a lot better with bears?

As someone who doesn't play any of those games (other than CoD zombies) they are clearly not the same and you are trolling.

...............So?

I really don't see your point here.

Upon closer inspection they also all have guns that shoot bullets, usually made of some form of metal, at other humanoids with similar yet different weapons; some of which you can pick up and use yourself.

They all also have some form of melee combat.

Pick three games at random and you can find the same similarities.

What's this? Killing off main characters mid adventure? Tall, expansive, set pieces where the final battle is?

Skyrim did this as well! SKYRIM DUN GOOF'D!

I have discovered something interesting.

Inquisitor Ehrenstein is the same as his mother. Why, they share a lot of similar physical features (both are bipedal mammalians, for example), and genetically speaking are quite similar with something upwards of ninety something percent of his and her genes being shared between the two of them.

Really, they MUST be the same.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

You know what other games are really similar, CoD 1,2,3,MW,WaW, MW2, BO, and MW3... even their titles are similar, I mean what does this "Call of Duty" even mean, the makers of these games should sue each other for infringement and use of a common title!

...seriously?

When I shoot stuff in Doom it dies.

When I shoot stuff in Dynasty Warriors 5 before they removed the bow it dies.

It can't be a coincidence.

Speaking of melee weapons...

I can hack someone with an axe in Might and Magic 2 on the genesis.

I can also hack people with an axe in Medal of Honor!
