Hey All,

I was wondering if a Bastion or Cinerator list would be viable and if so, with which warcaster?? I just love the way these models look! And is one unit better than the other or do they serve different purposes?

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Chappy P!

I'm guessing those are the heavy armored multi box unit Menoth has? I'd say probably one unit maxed and with a caster that can increase their survivability with armor, spell ward or something else.

Yep, very possible. Hierarch Severius (Severius2) has a theme list that gives a speed boost to those units. Grand Exemplar Kreoss (Kreoss2) will also help as well.

Other than that most Protectorate casters can use the bastions and cinerators well.

As for the difference between the two, Cinerators are slightly better at clearing through troops with their flaming swords and bastions are great at surviving massive damage. Bastions have a slightly better threat range as standard but the cinerators will get a speed boost if they are damaged.

Hope this helps.

Cool idea, im was also thinking of trying this with the starter box, for a warcaster i would take kroess and use a a squad or two of each of the cinerators and bastions

this is my army im working on

Kroess
revenger
repenter
crusader
avatar of menoth
10 cinerators
5 bastions
and a choir of menoth

pretty basic heavy menoth list. based upon the starter box or battlebox

hope this helps

Yellowblades, I wouldn't purchase two of the same unit, especially as a beginner. Having variety on the tabletop allows you to adapt more effectively to what the enemy is doing. The long ranged threat in that list is from the jacks and though the choir will improve the damage output, something else that shoots might help when you face a caster like Haley.

From my experiences I would say no. Running one of each and I feel very limited. They're just too slow. You need Exemplar Errants or deliverers to threaten people to close in on you.

eKreoss's theme list is a powerful in your face force; it is indeed viable.

Beware of denial though.

What about Epic Severius?? How do these units fare with him? Does he add anything?

If you go with his theme list (details in the Menoth Forces book) then those medium based exemplar units gain advance move giving them an extra 4" move. As their main weakness is their low speed this will get them into the battle faster and thus cause your opponent more problems. Serverus2 also has holy ward which will protect one of the squads from spells and add to the DEF. Other than that though Severus2 doesn't add that much to the units. But it is slightly more than most other casters in the Protectorate arsenal. The only one I can think of that gives more is Kreoss2 and some people do think he is just a walking feat button. However, being able to hit automatically, hit twice and ignore continuous effects like fire is a great benefit.

Not really.

What the theme force provides, however, is advance move.

I haven't tried the theme force at tier 2 or 3. I simply take the list
all the way to tier 4 and field four heavy warjacks (including the
avatar). The list also features at least two units of the big guys,
sometimes three (two units of Cinerators and one unit of Bastions
or one of each). The Hierarch Severius himself, however, adds
very little to the list outside of Holy Ward (+2 DEF and spell
immunity).

Another option is to field them with Vindictus since he makes
them faster and the feat allows them to punish single wound
models from taking them apart piecemeal. However, many abilities
in the game get around Vindictus' feat...

@Malfred can you talk a little more about Vindictus? He's another Menoth castor that I am interested in!?!
