I find it funny how each editon comes out, Space Marines get easier to play while some other armies like Tyranids do not.

I know in Rouge Trader everyone had movement stats. Space Marines were 4" I believe. Since I don't know about 2nd edition, I can't talk about that, but when 3rd edition came out, SM became faster for free, while others who were at 6" basically became slower while not getting a discount compared to SM becoming faster. I can't remember the differences between 3rd and 4th so I am not sure what the SM got. But when 5th edition came out, SM again became easier. They got Fleet for free. Well it's called "RUN" in 5th edition but basically that was Fleet in 4th edition. So units that had to pay for Fleet in 4th basically ended up being able to assault after running. Not a very big tradeoff since the SM again get something for Free and become easier. Also funny how Rending goes on the Wound Roll instead of the too Hit roll. Again beniffiting the SM.

Then thier codex comes out, the SM become a bit cheaper or same price BUT get grenades for free wich they had to pay for before. Again Tyranids for example, when they become cheaper, they had to loose some stats and become weaker before being upgraded. Funny SM become stronger at cheaper or same points but Xenos had to become weaker for cheaper points. Either loose a point in I or A or loose an ability when they get a new 5th edition codex. They also get to choose what special ammo they want to fire or shoot, while before they had to pick one or the other.

So I am wondering when the 6th edition rules come out, What will SM get for free this time? How about when the 6th edition codex comes out? I am not trying to say SM are easy to play, I think it may come out like that, but that is not my intent, it's just we know that SM is GW bread and butter and want them to be popular. I am just curious as to what they will get for free or become easier to play, by making choices easier like being able to use both types of ammunition in a game and not pick one or the other for the game.

Yeah it's a slow day for me, and I have nothing else better to think of.

as a guard player, i feel like ATSKNF basically takes away 1/3 of the game, will SM have to make moral checks ever?

Chimeras > rhinos (course then again piling a regular squad out of a chimera usually creates a scene similar to Omaha beach during D-Day)

Yes, yes, we all hate space marines, seems we get these as often as we get the infamous "Tau Genocide" threads.

To answer your question, most likely they'll receive some buff to their save.

Guardsmen, Fire!

Probably just the 3 shots at 18". Can't be too easy can it?

While Space Marines benefitted in some ways from the changes over editions, they've been gimped in other ways. Assault Cannons got nerfed, they lost their two close combat weapons, everybody got to benefit from Rapid Fire (which used to be a Space Marine only skill), and shooting was nerfed by unit movement rules.

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?

I am not ragging. I just found it funny how gaunts had fleet before in 4th, but when 5th came out, gaunts became cheaper, but lost fleet.

I didn't know that SM lost some stuff as Vetran Seargeant said. I didn't get the SM codex. I guess I just see what other SM I played agaisnt have and saw how they benifitted while not loosing anything. So I guess I am wrong.

Then again, it's hard to see what SM lost when they are in vehicles all the time and only come out on turn 4 or 5.

Again, not complaining or ragging, just curious what else they will get.

Everyone also got cover saves that basically gives them marine armor, the best save a guardsmen ever got before that was a 6+ which was usually removed by a modifier so no saves in the end. Almost every army got to move more, eldar moved 5, now EVERYBODY moves 6 so guard, orks, basically everyone got the movement benefit.

At least marines are breakable now. In the2nd half of first edition the were unbreakable and always got a +1 to hit in cc for being in marine armor. The simplification of the game in many ways has nerfed marines while giving everyone advantages. Cover saves, especially the way entire units get it, only being able to target one unit (space wolves devs being the exception) and many other rules have taken the elite right out of the marines.

Space Marines still have to take morale checks, same as anyone else. They just don't get overrun in hand to hand, and can regroup when under half strength. Everything else still applies.

The only buff I'm seeing for Marines in 6th is the rumored changes to Rapid Fire. Tactical Marines would get more deadly, but then again so would Guardsmen. The current codex is only slightly easier to play than the previous codex, and that's just because they removed the traits system while adding more composition options.
