Hey guys, I bought myself a vallejo model color set for christmas. I decided to test it out and get some practice on a dwarf slayer, I would love some feed back, just an FYI these colors are very very very different than what Im used to, so I present to you, my Dwarf Slayer.

Neatly painted for sure. You don't have much in the ways of highlights though, but theres a chance the flash is hiding them. It's really just the beard that needs more work, mostly because it's such a big part of the model. The skin is fine, if only lacking tattoos (personal preference though, love tats on slayers). The gold seems a tad lackluster as well, but that's just my taste.
It's nice though. I don't know much about the vallejo model color set, but if it has anything in the ways of washes or inks, you should try 'em out. If nothing else, just make your own.

looks solid, but I'd suggested doing another wash and highlight on the beard. It looks unfinished next to the skin.

I agree with what Soverntear says, he needs a wash. Otherwise he looks really good.

Guilliman and the Ultramarines are like Manchester United, everyone hates them because they are so awesome!

just throw on a high light to the beard,it looks flat,a wash isnt the answer to everything.
flesh looks great for first time useing your paint set as vallego paints are a lot thinner than GW,so you need more control.
your gems look great as well.
next time on your gold base with a dark brown, thin aply yor gold on the raised areas, with a dash of silver for highlighhts.
ill be painting a dwarf as well and i use 90% vallego paints i perfer them to gw,gw has a problem of half filling their jars of paint.

Thanks everybody! the beard always give me the biggest trouble, along with the gold, the Vallejo metallics are pretty hard to use since alot of it is so realistic and haven't learned much on mixing them for different shades.
but here are my procedures for the gold and the beard.
Beard:
Dark brown base coat
Orange over the brown with recesses showing
wash with devlan mud
orange again
Gold:
Dark brown
Brass
Badab black wash ( GW)
brass again leaving recesses
highlight with bronze
extreme highlight with silver.
I wasn't sure how the vallejo gold would look, so I decided to just be safe and do a muted bronze color, gems themselves need to be cleaned up since I got a little bronze on them, for not painting things in the proper order haha. Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh yea! here you go guys, this is a present for those of you who are stubby chasers just like my self, Dat Behind
Also, we all know a good bit of action is always fun, so here he is going against my river troll
Dat Smell
Pretty happy with the pants, did them in the same fashion as my ogre standard bearer since Im trying to get used to blues (Shameless plug incoming )

how where the paints so different from what you are used to???
were they more liquid, thicker, covered less, brighter???
i have used the Vallejo Air metals, and the colors seem super strong when painted on...
that took a little adjusting to...
they are also very liquid, but i thought that was just because they are for the airbrush (though i use them with a paintbrush)...
are the Model Colors thinner than your usual paints, and what do you usually paint with...
i love my P3's, but i've had my eye on a few more unique colors from Vallejo...
i love their Air metals now that i have adjusted to them...
cheers

Model air is pre-thinned for airbrush use. Model color and game color are thinner than gw but not as thin a model air and they have excellent coverage( they are an acrylic/vinyl formula makin them very durable) and a huge color selection. My favorites are the model color old bronze and golds. Stick with them and you won't be disappointed
Excellent work btw. The skin looks great on the dwarf.
