maybe a little twisted and eccentric by now, mind you. But i like to believe in the fluff where he is on some of quest to restore the Emporer and the lion, and regain the honour of the Dark Angels chapter. Like if he was a bad guy, and if wasnt the broken blade of Lion Sword and was the Sword of Luther why woudnt he use the sword? its a weapon of immense power, if he was chaos, and it is the lions broken blade, that thing would have been corrupted and become a posssesed blade faster then a wart grows a nurglings butt.

Maybe he doesn't use it because it's broken?

From what I can gather, he is working for the Illuminati and is on a mission to bring about the rebirth of the Emperor. He plans to do this by making his way towards Terra and, when the time is right, gaining entry to the Throne Room and using the Lion Sword to destroy the earthly remnants of the Big E.

Although I get the feeling that the Grey Knights have a hand to play in this drama somewhere along the line. I also think that the Emperor Himself has (maybe) played a hand in this drama by being the one responsible for Cypher's disappearing act whenever he has being captured.

His interests appears to be contrary to the Imperiums because essentially they are. He is working strictly towards the Emperor's agenda which, if you think about it would be quite different to the 'present' Imperiums seeming as it has become internally corrupt and what have you.

There is a short story in the eye of terror book about how his actions have made the Iom stronger against chaos. Abby confronted him about it and he shot one if abbys guards and just walked out. Abby did nothing.

Even Abby won't mess with him.

It cannot be the sword of luther. I have read a short story in a compelation book of 40k stories where an Interrogator Chaplain slaughters many Eldar in his search for the Lions sword after a fallen angel confesses that they found it, but in the end it turns out to be the sword of luther, so Cypher cannot be running around with it XD

To the OP, this has come up alot of the forum and is one of the many possiblities thought up.

It is also one of the main ones due to the fact that GW have made it clear that he may or may not be a good guy actually. It is one of his character foundations.

he's the only "good" guy in the 40K world as he's off to earth to kill the emperor so that he can be reborn in the warp, kill the other 4 gods (maybe give draigo a lift back ) and stop chaos once and for all (or at least stop it from being a threat)

I thought Cypher was the last Chaos cultist of Caliban.

I don't follow the Dark Angels too closely though.
