Grovelin' Grot

Hi all,

Here are some of the Orks I've painted over Christmas, I'm slowly painting up my army. Also I've used some photo editing software, so my pictures look a little better than others I've uploaded before. The model I particularly like is the Grot orderly with his blood stained and rusty tools, I'd be pretty scared if he was going to operate on me

I've included a better picture of my Ghazghkull Thraka too.

Thanks for looking and any comments are appreciated.

Ben

Very good job! The highlighting is one of the best jobs I have seen done! You have a good eye for the highlighing
the skin. Also really like the burned metal look.

Super clean work, but maybe a little TOO clean.
Weathering and battle damage is almost required for it too look propa Orky.

Really great paintjob. Very clean looking - a bit too clean for Orks perhaps. The bikes/koptas could use some weathering. But your skill is amazing!

Also, is Ghazkghull scratching his butt there? Ok, that was lame

While a bit of banging up wouldn't hurt, there's nothing wrong with relatively clean Orks. If anything, the "weather everything, then weather it again" craze that seems to have spread well beyond just Orks means that you lads will be all the more unique!

I'd say the biggest weakness in these models is the color red. The eyes are barely visible, due to the thinness of the single coat, but that may actually be desirable. The larger expanses (bike and kopta), while having pretty solid coverage, feel quite flat, when compared to the rest of the models and that is the primary issue. I can see some evidence of edgelining on the bike, but it's neither thorough or of high enough contrast to really define all those edges, so the forms get lost.

All in all, they still look good, but it'd be a shame to let such a prominent color in your scheme hold them back.

Thanks for all your helpful comments!!!

@oadie - I can definitely see what you mean. I've washed the red with devlan mud and highlighted the bike with blood red but maybe I should highlight it finely with some vomit brown or similar to make the edges stand out a bit more.

I've also painted some rust spots on the bike in places but not very much. I think I need to gain confidence in taking a paintbrushes full of brown and orange to my carefully painted and washed metal.

The orky pictures in GMM studios post are amazing and I should have a go at trying to copy their rusty metal.

Thanks again

As some others have said - beautiful and clean work, but perhaps a tad too neat. That's just my personal preference though - I like rust and dirt on my ladz!
