The FAQ page 7

Basically means that a unit can start the game embarked in a non-dedicated transport, which mean I should be able to get my libby + 5 TH/SS termies to drop in on turn 1 behind the enemy line. Then I use my Vortex of Doom to knock about some vehicles.

Finally, I can Gate of Infinity back (next turn) if necessary. Sounds like a prime candidate list for Tigurius.

You are right that a libby and or a termi squad can start the game in a non-dedicated transport. The problem you have is the only way to buy a drop pod is via the dedicated transport rule. Since only the unit that bought the dedicated transport can start in that transport there is no way for you to put your libby/termies into a drop pod.

Yup. If the Drop Pod wasn't dedicated to another unit, you could theoretically start deployed in it. However the only way to get a pod is as a dedicated transport.

With Tigurius I presume you mean Space Marines.

Drop Pods are dedicated transports for SM's.

Any unit can start the game in a nondedicated transport vehicle.

Q: Can a unit start the game embarked in a nondedicated transport vehicle? (p92)
A: Yes, as long as its unit type is allowed to embark
onto that vehicle and it does not exceed the transport
capacity

But Drop Pods are dedicated transports, and per BRB pg 67 "The only limitation of a dedicated transport is that when deployed it can only carry the unit it was selected with (plus any independent characters)". Neither a Librarian nor Terminators (excluding Black Templars) may take a drop pod as a dedicated transport.

So the short answer is NO you can't drop them turn 1 in a regular game.

So get one for my Tac Squad/Command Squad and I think I am good to go?

Yes as long as the Pod is empty or has the unit you bought it for within it when the game starts, then you are good to go.

No, you are not "good to go". A unit must be able to start in a (dedicated transport) drop pod in order to use it. The only unit that can use a drop pod is the unit that bought it. Since neither the termies nor the librarian can buy a drop pod as a dedicated transport they can not start in one. Ergo they can not use a drop pod under current rules.

Are you asking can buy one for your command squad and then put the libby and termis in it? The answer is NO

You're gtg for the Tac Squad/Command Squad to come down in a drop pod... or leave it empty.

There are no rules giving you permission to embark on a dedicated transport prior to deployment. Which means there's no way to get your termis in the drop pod.

Read your FAQ again:

Q: Can a unit start the game embarked in a nondedicated transport vehicle? (p92)

A: Yes, as long as its unit type is allowed to embark

Your plan falls apart because a drop pod is always a dedicated transport.

Please refer to paragraph 6 of page 94.

And yes, the page numbers for the rules are the same in both the big and small versions of the rulebook.

While you can give Wolf Guard Termi armor and a drop pod, trying to make an Assault Termi squad with them turns them into 63pts each (33pts each for just termi armor), so cost means I don't really count them.

Only if you're doing Hammernator spam, which you really shouldn't be doing because like you said, it's too expensive (as it should be). Personally, I'd take a squad armed with power weapons over a squad armed with powerfists or thunder hammers any day--the initiative penalty is just too crippling to give to an entire squad, IMNSHO.

Well, maybe one guy can take a thunder hammer.

Of course, a 3+ invuln is nothing to sneeze at, but all you really need to do is buy one storm shield, get a little clever with wound allocation, and voila. Let everybody else rely on their 5+ invulns (and since when is a 2+/5++ save a bad thing?)
