Difficult question. The answer could be just a faction choice, who's your warcaster/warlock or what is actually in the army.

So at the moment I mostly play Cryx though I have dabbled with Protectorate and Highborn Covenant in the past.

Currently I've been playing Deneghra1, Skarre1, Scaverous, Goreshade2 and Mortenebra. Both the Asphyxious', Goreshade1 and Venethrax but not recently and Goreshade2 I'm still trying to make work competitively but I'm having fun learning about his tricks.

As for what I'm using in my forces. I'm attempting to step away from the bane thralls (not that successfully with Goreshade ). Blackbane ghost raiders, Satyxis, Bonejacks and mechanithalls are likely to feature in my lists with Bloodgorgers, Nyss hunters and bane knights coming in second.

As for solos, you'll see the warwitch sirens, Gorman, Gerlak and Tartarus.

Are you asking so you can learn about what you'll face in casual games or tournaments? In casual games I've found that anything goes. The silly end of the theme lists can come out, people playing mangled metal vs normal armies and fun scenarios like the ones in the mk i book escalation. Tournament games are when the seemingly powerful stuff comes into the picture. In Cryx this is seen to be Asphyxious2, both Deneghra's (but 2 more than 1) and Skarre2. Putting those casters with the Deathjack, Nightmare and Tartarus (and banes) will be seen as a massively aggressive thing to do so prepare for that if that's what you want to go for.

Edit: Darn, when did this become a poll Ok, the answer is Cryx. You can ignore the rest of my ramblings

Edit2: Over on the Lost Hemisphere blog Protagonist did a write up about the main stuff you'll see in each faction and what to do about it. Link. If anybody wants to learn more about what you could be facing then that's a good place to start.

Depends on the area, generally.

I've found (in a few areas) that Skorne tend to be the most under-represented Hordes faction and Trollbloods & Circle are the most popular. WM is pretty evenly divided, with maybe a slight edge to Cygnar (everyone likes the good guys) and Khador (Russians, 'nuff said).

I play Ret and Legion they seem to compliment each other well.

Church: So it is a sword, It just happens to function like a key in very specific situations.
Caboose: Or it's a key all the time, and when you stick it in people, it unlocks their death.

Its very dependent on your area. I thought Cygnar players are mystical fairytale creatures like unicorns, because i've never seen a single cygnar army, or even met a cygnar player, in over a year. I moved to another city and around here Cygnar is one of the most popular warmachine factions, but oddly enough there are only about 2 Cryx players around here. I know a gaming club where around 80% of the guys play Khador. Its pretty wierd actually, considering that some Citys got a certain trend in the players faction choice

Anyway i play Skorne, Cryx and Mercenaries

btw your poll lacks a " Mercenaries" option

I genuinely couldn't say in my area.

Obviously a lot of people have multiple armies but I can't think of a single one that stands out, not many people play Trollbloods, Minions or Mercenaries but everything else is quite evenly represented.

OI, where are Mercenaries!?!

I play Phinneus Shae with a tier 4 pirates life list. Tonnes of infantry, all the solos, the commodore cannon, and some freebooters, I also play Ashlyn, with some infantry, solos, a vanguard and a heavy jack or two, but these are all meant just for the purpose of delivering Ashlyn into my opponent's caster.

I've noticed a fair amount of Cygnar, Khador, and Cryx in my area.

Horders have a few odds and ends.

Minions, PoM, and Ret have one or two dedicated players, but they also have secondary armies that have been seeing more table time.

Personally, I play Cryx, Blindwater, and Khador.

No wargames these days, more DM/Painting.

I paint things occasionally. Some things you may even like!

At my FLGS most of us have more than 1 army but taken as a whole we have: 1 Khador, 3 Cygnar, O Cryx, 1 Ret, 0 Menoth, 0 Mercs, 2 Circle, 1 Legion, 1 Trolls, 2 Skorne, 1 Gators. The Ret is a new army (mine) so it's relatively small. We also have a coulple of guys who show up every so often with small Khador armies.

Wow, 0 Cryx and 0 Menoth? Must be nice being able to put miniatures on the table and expect them to do everything you tell them to.

The people who choose Cryx and Menoth were probably either burned at the stake or ran out of town.

Actually our Cryx player is now interested in another game system so he hasn't played for about 6 months or longer. At one point we had 2 or 3 menoth people but they all left town around the same time (of their own accord).

I play Menoth and Legion, and an the only player of both. Khador is easily most popular in my meta.

We have a journeyman going on over here and we have: 2 Menoth, 1 Khador, 1 Merc (Magnus), 1 Cygnar, and ! Legion. There was suppose to be a Cryx player as well but he could not make it, and there is an on/off additional Khador.

Looking at the problem is different from solving it, though observation is a part of the process

Where I'm at several of my gaming buddies just started recently. We just about have one of each army, with 3 Cryx players and one guy who has Ret, Circle, and I think Khador as well.

I, of course, picked Menoth. Someone has to purge the heretic

Both Bens, Paula, and I have Cryx(I think Blatt might have mentioned Legion too).
Sean has Cygnar
Nick and Rob have Khador
Andrew has Ret and Circle
That leaves you with Menoth.

I picked Cryx for the models and fluff without any prior knowledge to who all played WM/H(aside from Andrew), let alone who played what.

I know Ben B. has Legion, but I think he's dropping Cryx.

Nothing "leaves" me with Menoth; Menoth is the best. Their fluff is cool, and the purge the heretic with fire...what's not to like? Just because they're aren't the powergamer's army of choice (cough, you and Ben) doesn't mean I won't melt your face off now that I know how to play.

Although, now that you mention it, maybe I need to pick up Skorne...

I meant "leaves you" as in you being the last member of our group after listing everyone else.

Menoth can certainly come up with some nasty combos though.

Edit: You guys need to let me know when you all meet up to play.
