What do you think of the below? I've tried out the list and won quite handily with it. The Wolf Lord was a giant waste of points and I'll probably swap him out for a rune priest to go in one of the rhinos. I'll have some points left over so I may add in some more grey hunters to the drop pod squad to make it more surviveable and open up more options.

I like the list for a few reasons

A) plenty of first turn options
B) the benefits of drop pods without the commitment
C) Forcing the opponent to make difficult decisions right off the bat.

Here it is,

HQ
190 Wolf Lord w/Thunder Hammer and Storm shield

Elites
172 pts 4 Wolf guards , 4 combi-meltas, 4 powerfists
Dreadnought w/ MM and HF and Drop Pod 150
Scouts 85 pts w/ meltagun

Troops
3 X 130 pts 6x Grey Hunters, meltagun, Rhino
130 pts 6x Grey Hunters, meltagun, Drop Pod

Heavy Support
2X 190pts 5 Long Fangs, 4 Missile Launchers, Razorback with twin linked lascannon

1497

Automatically Appended Next Post:
If I change the Wolf Lord to a Rune Priest w/ chooser of the slain, it frees up approximately 86 points.

I'm trying to decide whether to add a marine to each squad, two more long fangs or more scouts.

Any responses? Any armies you think that this may have difficulty with at 1500 pts?

You have a decent amount of troops on the table so I like it. I also like the mix of Rhinos, Razorbacks, and Drop Pods. They're all useful and it keeps the list from being boring (and your squads from being undermanned).

At 1500 points I generally run a WGBL and not a Wolf Lord. I don't care what others say, I have no problems using them. The 1 less wound and 1 less leadership and 1 less attack doesn't make them drastically suck given they're 30 points cheaper.

That said, a Rune Priest would probably serve you better. Though you could take a WGBL with Saga of the Hunter for about 80 points to put with your Drop Pod squad. Stealth might improve their survivability, but probably not. I'd prefer to strengthen your Grey Hunter squads, maybe tack on some Wolf Standards. You could even add another 5 man squad and let them just walk on the board. They wouldn't be horrible back field objective holders, and can always jump in a Long Fang Razorback if needed.

I would say from what you have you need to do two things with your list.

1st drop the wolf lord, a rune priest would give you more ability to mess up hordes and assault units with murderous hurricane while jotww or living lightening gives him something to do at more range. Put a chooser of the slain and nothing else on the rune preist.

2nd issue is that a 6 man grey hunter squad with a WG leader is ok but bumping that up to 8 or nine would hit harder. With the 80 points you'd save with the rune priest you can get 4 more grey hunters and 2 wolf standards to spread around. This will give you more effective cc squads and make them more likely to last.

While drop pods are nice ways to get troops or dreadnaughts into interesting places I don't think 1 pod landing 1st turn is going to be very effective, as it will feel the wrath of a huge amount of enemy fire. While you may take out something nice and expensive like a landraider you may end up loosing or isolating your dread.
If you were to stick a 3rd drop pod in there you can drop two and force the enemy to split his attention. The list will be fine when you make the 2 changes but I think that you need to be clear on the tactics you're going to be putting into play.

It's not the size of the blade, it's how you use it.

I like the advice so far. Im going to replace the wolf lord with a rune priest with chooser. That frees up some 80 points. With that, I'm going to a few marines to the drop pod squad. I haven't decided on a MOTW or a Wolf Banner; I'd rather just buy some more marines.

With respect to the drop pod tactics, I considered three drop pods, but I don't like the idea of having two squads out in the open on the first turn- especially if the opponent reserves and whatnot. I think the Dreadnought on the first turn messes up with parking lots without committing too much up the field. Furthermore, the subsequent drop pod of marines can slam down on a backfield objective easily enough. With that, the scouts provide a 12" ribbon around the entire board of melta threat.

I've been finding that I have difficulties against IG lists and I'd like to be able to force some difficult decisions upon those players, instead of just letting them set up gunlines. I want to, as much as possible, be in their face the entire game, with the missile support of the long fangs just going to town.
