So I played a game today and I was certain that Black Orcs gets S7 in the first round of combat with GW because of the Choppa rule. Anyway, this player said that they do NOT since it says in the army book that the Black Orcs can either choose between Choppas or GW and since we never came to an agreement we both packed up our stuff, said good bye and looked for new opponents. But this got me thinking - what if he was right? It does say GW and not a two-handed Choppa and I checked the FAQ and I didn't find any information about it.

it says somewhere in the new orcs and goblins book, (just search i cant remember the page) that anything counts as a choppa so you are correct.

Sweet. I don't have the book with me at the moment (currently at a friends house) so i'll take a closer look once I get home.

Choppas are not "weapons" per se - not any longer.

P33 clarifies this; models with the Choppas special rule gain +1S in the first round of combat

So if you have Big un Boyz (S4) with GW (+2S) in the first round of combat you are +1S from the Choppas rule, for the S7 total you gave

In other words your opponent was a tool, however if you couldnt show him your armybook (p33) then thats a salutary lesson to keep it on you!

Heh, I suppose. To be honest I forgot about actually reading the rule and just read the Black Orc part. Silly me.

Choppa rule includes magic weapons.

Basically any weapon an Orc wields is called a choppa. That's just how they did it. Axe is a choppa, Great weapon is a choppa. dual swords are choppas. Etc. Whatever you are equipped with is basically a choppa.

Well, that's basically true. Nosferatu's got this on lock; orcs have the Choppa special rule, which applies to any weapon they hold.
Spears? More like Stabbas. Fencer's Blades? More like Fencer's Choppas.

But...did the difference between S6 and S7 matter enough to cancel the game?

Yup. We didn't really fight, we just argued. He didn't want to continue if I was, apparently, going to "cheat" with S7 and I said that I didn't want to continue if he won't follow the rules of my army. So we said good bye and then looked for new opponents.
