I got a few boxes of these for Christmas and am unsure how to build these guys.
So was hoping the guys here would help.
Lychguard would maybe have the shield option, but the Praetorians would be the basic unit.
NOTE: If in wrong area feel free to move.

Lychguard, the lack of attacks makes the Preatorians too much of a point sink. Lychguard look cooler too.

Lychguard are good. You can also make Deathmarks from that kit, I like them, but they're an "additional" unit. Praetorians are rather a lot for what you get, and I don't recommend them.

Lychguard seem to be performing well, locally. That T5 with a 4++ seems to make ALL the difference.

Not without conversion work. The kits are Immortals/Deathmarks and Lychguard/Praetorians.

I have a unit of Praetorians with the Void blades and particle Casters; the plan was to build a CC unit. But after looking at them and playing them. They still don't have the "Punch" needed for CC. I compare them to the Space Marine jump pack Assault unit, and I was still losing the unit pretty quick in CC. so I then teamed them up with a Destroyer lord with war scythe and resorb. I started hunting "Tanks" with them the voidblades have Entropic Strike. So they have been rather effective in this manner. Jump in strike entropic hits and then have the Destroyer lord punch a hole in it with the war scythe and Pop goes the Tank. Then since they are jump pack, it doesn’t take long to jump over to assault another "tank" next round. Plus the resorb gives them a good chance on getting back up. Now that being said the Praetorians cost 200 points, Destroyer lord with warscythe and resorb cost 190 so that’s a total of 390 points. I have played this set up in lower point games, such as 1000 points, and it’s like putting all your eggs in one basket, looks nice on paper but get them out on the battle field and they get shot up, you now have nothing else your army can do. So I would not recommend this set up for under 1500 point games. That’s my two cents.

I like both. The Praetorians (Voidblade and Caster, if you build them) are best supported by a Destroyer Lord with an Orb. That unit is 375 points, but highly mobile.
Lychguard are good with either Warscythes or Hyperphase Swords, really a 6 of one, half-a-dozen of the other type situation. You need to use them differently though, the resiliance of the Sword & Board guys is outstanding, but don't get them stuck in combat with a walker. They need a mode of conveyance (Cryptek of Despair with VoD, Obyron, or Night Scythe).
Warscythe guys really only need a cover save. If you're feeling a bit goofy, you can take the Chronometron Guy with a timesplinter cloak and take the lascannon hits on him (3++ save with a single re-roll per phase, if that re-roll isn't needed, you can use it on a reanimation protocol failure)

Sorry about the late reply.
It seems more people prefer the Lychguard, which to be honest was my original thought.
It seems like both units are meant to be used differently, the guard for basic troops and the torians for tanks/walkers.

I would say lych. I have played a game or two with them and a unit of 5 can go a long way especially since the shield gives them a 4+invul. also if you attach a lord with res orb with them they are kick but because they come back on 4+ instead of 5 or 6. Also they get 2 attacks each and when you give them eh word and shield combo for opts each the sword becomes a power weapon I believe. Do not have book in front of me so not sure if what the sword is, is completely accurate

A squad of 10 with shield and lord with warcythe (if ou get stuck in combat with walker) with res orb will be a walking death star and a wall of cover lol.
They are the best you can build out of those units i personally think.
Destoryer lord and Praetorians are jsut a huge waste of points because the destoryer is S7 2D6 pen, you should take out all tanks except maybe a landraider or monolith.
You don't need the Praetorians to lower the armour.

I've had success with the Destroyer Lord / Praetorian (with Void & Caster) combo.
375 points for a quick moving and reasonably resilient assault unit is alright.
I won't be putting that unit in a tournament list though :-)
Sword & Board Lychguard with a pair of Court Lords (one from each court) with Scythes and scarabs, one with an orb, can be a pretty scary unit. It really needs a NightScythe, Obyron, or a Cryptek with a VoD to get around though.

I vote for Lychguard because Royal Court members can attach to them and not to the Praetorians.

Gotta go with the lychguard. I really would like to find a use for the preatorians though as I think in the right situations they can dish some damage

This. I've been playing with the numbers a bit, some where between 5 and 8 seems to be the sweet spot, but its a lovely little unit that causes a lot of havoc.

Lychguard with a VoD cryptek and a Lord with Mindshackle scarabs and res orb seem to work well with me, 4++ save and a power weapon a piece on the Lychguard are good, mobility through the cryptek and the lord adds a nasty combat ability as well as a better reanimation protocols roll, also, a lord with the staff of light adds a decent close range shooting ability against MEQ.
At least this works for me, but Praetorians are a bit of a strange unit, kitted out with particle casters and voidblades is quite good against vehicles, but lychguard with scythes still do it better so Lychguard has my vote.
