I'm about two thirds, maybe slightly more, done on a Space Wolf army. I love the intensely overdone fierceness of the army. This comes through in some of the art that I found on the web. I'm captivated by the massive armor, massive animal cloaks, massive weapons, etc. That is one of the reasons I chose to have Logan Grimnar, who embodies this well, leading my army. Recently, I had surgery on my back that left me mostly on my couch for a few days. I have spent a lot of that time watching the Game of Thrones. That series has given me new inspiration for stylizing my Space Wolves with overdone cloaks and armor.

I'd like to get this style:

and the codex cover art that we all know

I thought of using chaos warrior cloaks in place of backpacks on my marines (not particularly original I know). I thought I could dremel away the torso of the chaos warrior until just the cloak is left. Then I would attach the cloak to the Space Wolf torso in place of a backpack.

Here is a picture of the Chaos Warrior torsos for reference:

And here is the dremel I was thinking of using:

Would this dremel work for modeling purposes? Are there other dremels in that price range that anyone uses or can recommend?

Also, I'm not a very experienced converter (this is my first GW army) so are there other conversion ideas any of you would suggest? I have bought new shoulder pads from Scibor miniatures for my terminators that will give them a more celtic style.

I'm looking to achieve the overdone, wild, warrior style of the Space Wolves throughout my army. How could I best do that?

Best Regards,

You're gonna want to look at this:

Careful with a dremel. The high speeds will melt rather than cut plastic, making a disaster, ya know? I might purchase a good sturdy box-cutter instead for your heavy-duty cutting needs (for plastic anyway).

See about some of the Chaos Warriors weapons rather than the chainswords, ya know? I gave my MoTW guys morningstars....badass (imo anyway).

Otherwise, think of a good way to paint them gritty, dirty, dark, and brutal looking (that's what the images you posted say to me anyway).

Good luck. If anything else pops into my head, I'll drop it here.

Why is it that only those who have never fought in a battle are so eager to be in one?

I have that dremel it works very well. One tip though, when cutting don't use a standard cut off wheel because as fenrir said, it will melt the plastic. Instead, use a thin, metal, toothed saw head as it will cut through like a handsaw will but be MUCH quicker and will not melt the plastic at medium speeds.
