The Death Star

This might not be the place to ask but anyways.

I'm going to be baptised a Catholic very soon (Sometime this month) and I was asked to pick two god parents. I have two people in mind (Their faimly friends who live across the street and they have bin really awesome and cool to me and my family. I thought about asking them, but I was worried this may make them uncomfortable and didn't want to weird them out by asking them this.

Do you guys think its a good Idea to ask them. I've known these two people and their kids for about 3 and half years and their as close as faimly without actually being faimly.

This is really too much of a personal thing to ask Dakka, and really the internet, what about asking other family members for advice?

The biggest indicator someone is a loser is them complaining about 3d printers or piracy.

I wouldn't ask them. Best to ask someone in your family: an aunt/uncle is ideal.

Well about 95% of family lives in Canada because I moved away to New Zealand to live with my Mother and Step-dad... so I look at 'family' differeantly.

Are you an adult or a minor?

Im guessing a minor. If they are as close as you say they are, just talk to them about it. They will tell you if its weird for them or not. Keep it casual too. That way if it gets weird, no big deal just say ok just wondering your thoughts on it. Sides it might make them feel good that you think of them in that way.

But yea, the OT is definitely NOT a personal help add. Just for future reference

There is a guy you could ask about this... your priest.
Would be my first port of call.

In Oz you need 1 sponsor/godparent who is baptised catholic and has received the Eucharist. Not sure about NZ.

Our kids were baptised as Anglicans and we had no godparents for them as it is not necessary and we couldn't come up with anyone suitable in the Anglican Church.

Godparents are a tradition of the days when it wasn't unusual for parents to die during your childhood. The role of the godparent was to step in and ensure a continuation of your upbringing as a Christian.

In the modern world it is more of a social thing, used to further family and social ties between the younger and older generations.

That is, unless you take the religious meaning very seriously.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.
