Though GW may still make some references to him from time to time...

Malal has been demoted to lesser Chaos God and I guess witness protection had him change his name to Malice.

However, that doesn't stop GW from making references to him, such as the Sons of Malice.

Who knows? Perhaps one day GW will get a hold of him some day.

They never officially say it, but its implied that he is now malice. But if you want an army devoted to that guy, go right ahead. My DE have devoted themselves to Malal and in return he grants them immunity to the nesh-nom

If you actually read the comic book (all three eight-page issues of it) in which he features, it's pretty lame; Malal is a generic horned and fanged horror, his champion, Kaleb Daark, looks like a member of a briefly-famous new-wave band, and the overall style is far more jokey than Warhammer nowadays.

Frankly, Pat Wagner and Alan Grant (of Judge Dredd and Strontium Dog fame) evidently weren't trying all that hard the day they knocked it out, and Malal is no more relevant to the setting as it is now than the Gods of Law, Zoats, Rainbow Warriors, or any of the innumerable other things people insist are cool solely because they're out of continuity.

Thank you for being the only other voice of reason on this subject.

Malal was never interesting. It's only the fact that it's gone that makes people nostalgic.

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

Eh, I have always thought that the concept of him was very interesting and could be worked in a terrific manner. That's why I'm glad that Malice is still around to pick up the mantle of the God of Vengeance, Nihilism, and Anarchy. A god who represents the divided aspect of chaos itself. I have always found it to be badass.

This.

The execution of Malal was flawed, sure. But the concept is great. All the Chaos Gods represent negative aspects of humanity; addiction, ruinous pride, the desire to always be in control, greed and sloth. Malal represents nihilism and self-destruction. Malal is the evil that fights against evil for evil reasons, the madness that sets men against their friends and family. Malal represents that part of humanity that will gladly annihilate themselves, if they can just take someone else down in the flames with them. Malal is murder-suicide pacts, the Count of Monte Cristo, the nuclear holocaust that wipes out both parties.

That's a pretty damn badass god. And I bet anyone who attends one of Malal's parties NEVER forgets it, if they happen to be among the survivors.

Actually have a stupid question but it's been an amusing thought so I'm going to spill it anyway.

The two missing primarchs are called the Lost and the Purged, I believe primarch XI is the Lost, Malice's number is 11, Malice is also known as the Lost.... could have it been possible that Malice was primarch XI that somehow obtained godhood?

Sadly for that theory, they are in fact dubbed by Malcador 'the forgotten and the purged'.

Whoops my bad, thought that one was called the Lost... sigh, and I thought I was onto something...

Edit: I don't know now, several people i have seen on missing primarch threads do call them the lost and the purged interchangably with the forgotten and the purged... So for now I'm going to continue to toy with this idea. And here is one of the ways I think it could have occurred.

Let's say that the lost may have been put on order to guard and protect man's interests near the eye of terror. Occasionally coming across foul warped creatures, he sought to understand his enemy. Thus he stumbled upon chaos. He researched more into his findings to discover the four gods of chaos and eventually presented his findings to his father and requested that he be allowed to warn his brothers of the malignant entities that haunted the Warp. The emperor however, had other thoughts. Fearing possible corruption that could spread unto his other children he ordered Russ to silence primarch 11 saying that his brother was hell bent on rebelling against the empire that he himself had sacrificed so much to create. Leman Russ, ever the loyal son, went and performed the task the emperor had given him without question. Towards the end of the vicious battle that took place, primarch 11 - who had been confused up 'til this point as to why his own brother was trying to kill him - had a moment of clarity, and understood why Russ was trying to kill him and why his father wanted to keep this hidden. And he resented it, he had been deemed traitor for doing what he had been ordered to do. Hellbent on surviving and getting his revenge, primarch 11 fled into the Eye of terror, and later the warp where he was certain no one would pursue him.

From within the eye he learned of the rise and fall of many an empire and as he watched his brethren, he witnessed a civil war that left man in the shackles of perpetual ruin. But his time in the eye came at a price, mutations began show, his mind fell into an incurable madness which increased his emotions, his feeling of betrayal and hunger for vengeance increased exponentially. He became a terror to behold, one who frequently performed acts of terror on surrounding worlds with no discrepancy for whether they belonged to chaos or man. Soon enough the gods themselves took notice of him...(gotta run, will be back with more story telling speculation)

The Gods saw him as a potential boon to their cause and visited him offering him gifts and powers beyond imagination. They were all rejected. Primarch 11 in all his madness, vengeful anger, and enlightenment spat in the faces of the gods, claiming that with time that they would collapse much like man had done so many times, like the Eldar did, like those who came before chaos did. That all would fall, even the lord of entropy itself would fall, thus the only reasonable way to live was in a manner that truly embodied chaos itself, with no rules, no bounds, and thus no gods or leaders who restricted them to a certain train of thought. Realizing that this man, this mortal was growing into a threat against their cause, they united together in an effort to either kill him or rid themselves of this dangerous mortal.

But Chaos in the Warp is fickle, for it pays no heed to no god for were they not all born of it? Thus how could these four gods know or alter what inclinations chaos itself had, for Chaos does not plan, it merely does. Inside this man it saw potential for something that merely amused it, and it planted a seed deep within the soul, heart, and mind of this Man who, thanks to his many mutations, felt emotions deep and stronger than any Eldar, who and grown to give himself a threatening presence in the Warp, much like his father had. Thus chaos set the stage for a new god to arise, which the other four would awaken, but who were they to know? The wrath of the Gods of Chaos came pouring viciously upon Primarch 11, and though he fought off daemon after daemon bravely, the effort was futile and eventually he was broken down. Before the final blow he released all his hate, his anger, his madness towards everything, to the Gods who had shown a sign of desperation to remove him, to the men of the Imperium who betrayed him. And when the final blow came, cleaving him in two, a god was born from the very essence of this man. A god who came to believe that he wasn't a god, for was he not just a mortal man moments before? This fueled him into the belief that the Gods were not truly gods for if a god could come about from a mere man, then could not the gods themselves die? Thus Malice came into existence. A god in his own right of Nihilism, of disbelief. A god of eternal vengeful hate and vengeance, A god of anarchy and the terror that came with it. A god of destroying all.

And yada yada yada, the other four gods eventually were able to give him the boot out of the Warp back into real space where, though he had become of the warp, he thrived as he was once part of real space, tormenting the minds of men, fueling burning desires of vengeance and hate until finding a space marine chapter that was in it's own right betrayed by the Imperium which he took in as his sons who eventually came around to give him material form.

Yeah yeah yeah that last part was rushed and all but I guess this gives the general gist of what I think could have happened to cause a primarch to become a god.

Gods? There are no gods. Merely existences, obstacles to overcome.
