Is a White Scar player allowed to field a dreadnought cause the fluff might argue that a White Scar would never want to entombed in a sarcophagus for all the rest of eternity, and they are slow in comparison with bikes and rhinos.

HOWEVER

They can deep strike in a Drop Pod straight onto the battlefield from a ThunderHawk somewhere.

This has left me confused

any help?

While White Scars specialize in quick hit and run assaults, they are still a codex chapter and still have all the standard stuff that other chapters have. So dreadnoughts are perfectly fine in a white scars army, they just aren't the focus of that chapter.

Thats my understanding of the white scars anyways....

Fluff is Fluff, Game is Game, there is never a need for the 2 to be mixed in an argument.

If white scar uses vanilla marine codex as their codex, then they can do w/e the codex allows.

If the devs want to keep the fluff, then they can make a new white scar list with the limitations, if not, then Dread is fine of course.

For codex chapters in particular, their fluff 'specialties' and tactics are really more of a guideline to make your dudes more of a... unique theme, I suppose. Ie it'd be a more White Scar-themed army if you leaned towards fast attack in place of heavier, slower things like Dreads and Terminators.

Let's pretend the Salamanders are a codex chapter (As they don't have their own, you could very well make them with the real-world Space Marine codex rules). To make it more "Salamander-flavoured" (delicious?), you could slap on as many flamers and meltas as you possibly could within a Space Marine army. It's only for flavour, though, and it doesn't mean that Salamander armies are barred from using, say, Rhinos.

In short, if anyone fan-rages at you about it, slap them with your codex.

EDIT: Although, be careful, Lunahound. If they made a White Scar codex, I'd say we'd get something like Super Mega Awesome Rocket-Boosted Dreadscar!!! It's a Dreadnought, except it's a Monstrous Creature, is ALSO jump infantry, can turboboost, teleport, has fleet, and instead of guns it has cannons that fire White Scars.

In the fluff it says no but if you search for pics of white scars alot of people use them. It's not uncommon just a tad unfluffy.
I don't really see why they wouldn't though. You can justify using them in drop pods as a quick attack kind of thing imo. But that would be about it if you were going fluffy.

Even though the White Scars are a hit and run army, they might still be forced to hold a piece of ground for whatever reason. If this happens, that's when they call in dreadnoughts to hold because nothing is going to move a dreadnought.

Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?

In the background, it's specifically mentioned that the White Scars do not have any dreadnoughts as being trapped within the cold confines of a dreadnought's sarcophogus goes against everything in the Chogorian beliefs & religion.
The White Scars like the tribesmen their recruited from, believe that a warrior's spirit should be left free to join the spirits in the sky represented by the flashes of lightning during the many storms on their homeworld.

This comes right from the Index Astartes that featured in WD waaaaaaaay back when. Back then they did actually have their own WD list, and at that time they couldn't use dreads. Everything also had to be on bikes, using jump packs or else mounted in transports in those old rules as well!

Of corse, now that White Scars are played using Codex: Space Marines, there's absolutely nothing to stop you using a White Scars dreadnought now and it's perfectly legal in the game to do so! The only reason you actually wouldn't use a dread is as a personal desicision because you want to stay 100% true to the established background.
Sure the odd fluffbunny will berate you for 'ignoring the fluff just to win' as those types typically decry, but honestly, they're just being morons! If you want YOUR White Scars to use dreads, then do so, nothing wrong with it at all!

Just take a normal Dread model and glue some training wheels on it.

We should get Dreadnoughts with wings with 20 Assault Cannons shooting out of its face.

There was a very kind fellow who worked at a store in Nadick, MA.

He made a fantastic convertion, turning a dread into a "tracked" form.

He used the treads from the older Ork Skorcha model and put the Landraider hemi-engine inside that.

A few other card bits and a hatch, and he had an awesome Tank/Dread.
