My friends and i are starting a campaign to help add a little story to our casual games. We are setting it up so that everyone is starting off with basic HQs and elite choices, and then based on how the games go IC's and special elites will come in later. So for me that means no deathwing or ravenwings to start with. I've never done a greenwing before so i wanted to get some feedback on setting up a list. Please, no comments on using C:SM instead as i dont have it, and i am sticking with my DA. This isn't for tournament play or anything, just casual gaming with friends. I will be facing off against Necrons, Eldar, Orks, Tryanids, and CSM. This is my first attempt at a greenwing list.

HQ

Company Master 100
-Melta Bomb 5
-Combimelta 10
-Power Weapon 15
-Plasma Pistol 15
Command Squad 105
-Apothecary 20
-Company Champion 25
-2 x Power Swords 30
-Meltagun 10
-Plasmagun 15
-Razorback TLC, SB 85

Troops

3 x 10 man Tactial Squad - 765
-Sergeant Power weapon, Plasma Pistol
-Missle Launcher, Meltagun
-Rhino SB

Elite

Scout Squad 10 man - 210
-Sergeant Sniper Rifle, Plasma Pistol
-Squad Sniper Rifles
Dreadnought - 135
-ML, TAC

Fast Attack

Landspeeder - 75
-ML, MM

Heavy

Predator – 165
-LC Sponsons, TLC
Vindicator – 130
-Dozer Blade
Whirlwind - 85

That should be 2000 points. C&C welcomed. Thanks.

Go for 3 typhoons and drop the whirlwind.
I would try razorbacks for the tactical squads with 5 man squads.
It would be better to have 2 vindis so they can run together.

You could give the command squad a rhino or drop pod to make use of the double melta.
Do you really need the sniper scouts? I would prefer 3 dreads maybe with plasma cannons depending on other unit's weapons.

Plasma pistols are not so awesome.

Good luck running without Belial , are you allowed deathwing termies at all?

Eventually i will get termies, but for the first couple skirmishes it will bee basic HQ's and elites on both sides. So based on your feedback here is my revised list:

HQ

Company Master
-Melta Bomb
-Combimelta
-Power Weapon
-Bolt Pistol
Command Squad
-Apothecary
-Company Champion
-2 x Power Swords
-Meltagun
-Plasmagun
-Rhino, SB

Troops

3 x 5 man Tactial Squad
-Sergeant Power weapon, Bolt Pistol
-Meltagun
-2 x Razorback TLLC, SB
-Razorback TLHB, SB

Elite

2 x Dreadnought
-ML, PC
Dreadnought
-ML, MM

Fast Attack

3 x Landspeeder
-ML, MM

Heavy

Predator
-LC Sponsons, TLLC
2 x Vindicator
-Dozer Blade

Should be 2000 on the nose again.

Yes, that is what I had in mind.

It is nearly a conventional marine list
Nearly with the conventional amount of fire power

Are you allowed to upgrade your dreads to Ven.Dreads? Ven.Dreads and typhoons are the two things DA does cheaper than Vanilla. 20pts for the Venerable upgrade is a steal (by comparison to most things) .

It doesn't have BS5 or WS5. Admittedly most weapons seem to be twin linked and WS doesn't have such a big effect.

the command squads rhino will get shot down first therefore not allowing the command squad to get anywhere as your opponent will see your army list and notice that your command squad are the only people in rhinos.

Tournament record: (W/D/L)
Space wolves : 1/1/1
Dark Eldar : 6/0/1 (1 overall win)
Daemons :8/0/2 (1 overall win)
Normal games starting 5/11/12:
Dark Eldar 13/0/1
Daemons 32/1/1
Friends armies 1/0/0

As you said yourself, those difference are marginal at best and definetly not worth the 40pts price diff. The Ven upgrade is a poor man's holofield but you get it at 15pts of so its well worth the points.

Meanwhile the Lasbacks and typhoons remains unmolested. I wouldnt really see that as a bad thing...That said, dont go overboard on upgrades. The Company champion upgrade is totaly useless for instance

As for the most recent list, i would persoanlly drop the ML upgrade on the PC dreads and go for the flamer. Also drop the TLLC on the Pred and take a third TLLC Razor. 3 squads seems a little on the light side I would squeez in another Lasback squad if I were you.

I agree on the champion.
The only thing you get from him is a 6+ invulnerable save not that useful but don't trade a tllc predator for a razorback they are weak and the pred is an excellent vehicle hunter.

also setup the dreads like this

dread1
mm ml

dread 2
tllc dccw sb

dread 3
pc dccw sb

upgrade sb to flamer as needed

8000 Dark Angels (No primaris)
10000 Lizardmen (Fantasy I miss you)
3000 High Elves
4000 Kel'shan Ta'u

I never said he should drop the Predator for a TLLC RB I said he should drop the extremly over priced TL lascannon upgrade on the Predator.

The setup of the dreads you propose seems confused. A 24" MM, which shines within 12", mixed with a 48" ML. You are much better of taking the ML to the lascannon dread.

Personally Im not a fan of walking MM dreads, so I would suggest taking two PC dreads instead. I always go for the 5pt HF upgrade, its too cheap not to take.
