As above - discuss.

Tesla = potentially more hits and is Assault 1 but AP-
Gauss = Rapid Fire, Ap4 and the potential to glance vehicles

Tesla is the way to go. Assault 1 and two additional hits per roll to hit of 6 is decent.

I choose tesla for a couple reasons -

A.) you can move and fire at 24" range. That is so key that unless I have a phaeron I won't touch gauss blasters (rapid firing then assaulting afterwards is a great move).

B.) The fact that cover saves are prettymuch 4+ for everything on the table, and area terrain is everywhere on many tables I play on, AP4 matters very little usually. Either their armor is 3+, so they get their saves anyway, or they have a 4+ cover. At 24" range I like to cause as many wounds as possible and with tesla netting extra hits, that is usually the best way to go. Plus gauss must remain stationary to fire at full distance, unless of course they have a phaeron with them.

In addition to the above, if you need gauss to hunt vehicles you're better off taking cheaper warriors instead. Gauss flayers and blasters are inefficient at killing tanks, but warriors can stunlock a vehicle pretty well if they get shots off.

Been out of the game for awhile, trying to find time to get back into it.

I haven't even tried using the Tesla but I use my Immortals to hold objectives so most of the time they are stationary anyways. I haven't done the math but when something gets within 12" don't the rapid fire shots have a better chance to inflict more wounds than the telsa? I also like the flexibility to shoot vehicles if need be.

Hmmmm.

I only ask as i already have 5 metal immortals and have bought a box of the new ones. Shoudl i build them with gauss for a full squad fo 10 or are sqauds of 5 at all usefull?

My plan is to have them wander round with a Phaeron if at all possible anyway (with Imhotek in bigger games)

If your plan is for them to walk around with a Phaeron, blasters are really the only sensible choice, as this is the only way to get a squad of 10 with your 5 existing gauss blaster Immortals. Phaeron also helps blasters, and does nothing for tesla. This configuration isn't perhaps the best use of Immortals and/or a Phaeron, but it's decent.

That said, I voted for tesla, because the added mobility and effectiveness at 24" mean the Immortals don't have to expose themselves to do real damage.
