So, when the new Dwarf book gets done, what do you think will be in it? What do you want to be in it? What do you fear will be in it??

Personally, I fear Warmachines and runes will get nerfed quite a bit

My biggest curiosity will be how they deal with the runic system in light of the more limited item selection in the new books.

It's been pretty fundamental to the Dwarf books ever since I've been playing, so I'd be surprised and disappointed if it went away altogether, but surely it will change in *some* manner.

I would expect the cannon to increase in cost. Currently it is less points than an Empire Great Cannon for the loss of a little range and the benefit of a dwarven crew.

I would hope they make the flame cannon playable.

And I would expect them to dream up some big kit for the dwarfs. An animated ancestor rune statue or some such. Don't particularly *want* one, but I expect it nonetheless.

“It was in lands of the Chi-An where she finally ran him to ground. There she kissed him deeply as he lay dying, and so stole from him his last, agonized breath.

On a delicate chain at her throat, she keeps it with her to this day.”

I hope they will bring some better boxes and sprues for Ironbreakers and Slayers.

But for rules, i'm not really sure. I hope they will somehow reduce the power of cannons, haha. But then again I think a new rulebook would change that. That's all I have to say really. I enjoy playing against Dwarves but cannons can be sooo annoying sometimes.

Yes, big kit of daftness is a given, but if they're going to do one, this seems an excellent opportunity to do an airship. They also seem keen to do monstrous infantry/cavalry for every army too, so maybe some kind steam powered chariot/mini-tank.

Army wide stubborn would be good too and very characterful IMHO.

I also believe they'll have a big kit. An animated rune construct or steam tank make sense, like Zeke and Flashman said. And also, as Flashman said, army-wide Stubborn would be awesome and still make sense. I've wanted it before I even played my Dwarfs. If GW feels the need to balance it out, then nerf some runes, maybe, or increase overall pt cost of most units.

I think an interesting rule would be instead of Ancenstral Grudge - Hating O&G only - , have a "Remember the Great Book of Grudges" rule. Any time the Dwarfs play against Skaven, O&G, any Elves, WoC, or Ogres (does that cover about all the proper grudges? Or is that too many? lol) Dwarfs get a +1 to hit against those armies. A bit OP'd I admit, but heck, the Dwarfs take their grudges seriously... maybe to make it less OP'd have it be +1 for first round of combat only. Or force the Dwarfs to take a Ld Test first or something similar.

Also, since Dwarfs have such a high resistance against magic, why should they be affected by the Winds of Magic? I say Dwarfs get 2 Dispel Dice every Magic Phase for each unit on the field and ignore Winds of Magic rolls by the opposing player. Again, OP'd, but GW can always balance it by increasing pts value of units or nerfing runes.

+1 hit to half the opposing armies, army-wide Stubborn, and broken Dispel Dice rules. I'm like the Matt Ward of WHFB! (ok, I can't hate on Matt Ward's codex-writing too much, since he did a superb job on WHFB 8th Ed, imo)

The BRB specifically has Dwarfs and dispelling. On one hand, I'd like to see all magic come together in a unified system, but not sure how you pluck out all the runes.

The problem with runes and magic items is they are harder to balance. 100pts of magic items for an Ogre and O&G are exactly the same and when/if you update the BRB or FAQ those changes are reflecte for both. I see a really limited rune system continuing that works like regular army book magic items.

I mean you see Dwarfen magic items all throughout the other Army books, why is it a big deal they use the BRB items?

As said earlier, new big rune/tank/warmachine kit would be interesting, as would the new army-wide special rule.

However, all I really want is the gyrocopter to go down in points, and no longer have partials, and Slayers to go down in points, so I could finally have an excuse to field them.

As Zeke mentioned, it'll be interesting to see what GW does to the runes, though I hope no drastic change occurs.

I want to start by saying that the Dwarf army book has, IMO, the most personality and flavour. When talking about it so some friends, they suggested that re-writing the book for 8th could cause some real problems.

My first concern was the same as Red_Zekes; the rune system. Modern army books have only a few specific items, as we all know. The problem, for me, is that I can't see how they can do that for Dwarfs. The whole idea is that runes and magic are similar but distinct..

I think that the system, as it stands, is great. Flavourful and flexible without being cheesey. I am guessing GW will re work the systen somewhat to be less flexible.

When I chat to people about Fantasy and Dwarfs, they seem to feel that Dwarf shooting is too good. I can see their point-maybe some of it is undercosted. However, look at how they revamped Ogre shooting. I can see the shooting phase being important to all armies in the future, and so maybe it'll be pretty much left alone. It might be "too good" now, but it might be just "good" in the future if GW's going more towards shooting.

What I want is for choices to be readjusted to give people reasons to have Ironbreakers and hammerers over "more warriors". I'd like Slayers to be given some sort of "too stubborn to die" rule where they get a save of some sort. I'd like to have a way of getting army wide stubborn (Banner rune? Special Character?). I quite fancy an Airship, or helecopter backpacks or some sort of flying Dwarfiness, and I want the Goblin Hewer....

For the shooting aspect I think we will learn quite a bit from the empire book that should be coming before it.

As for runes I hope to see 20 or so runes and then magic items but no access to wizarding hat or arcane items

I think a race as intelligent and practical as the dwarfs would know that they are slower than others and make solid ranged weapons. So as much as I love the image of the battleaxe wielding dwarf warlord, I think in the context of an army that shooting should remain a strength for dwarfs.

I am a real fan of fluff, so I really just would like to see rules that fit the fluff.

I really don't see the rune system needing to be changed that much, just limiting some (like spellbreaker - that's the dispel scroll right?).

I want the elite king's guard of hammers to shift to rares and get 2A.

I think slayers don't carry banners and tubas, and although not a popular idea, I would rather they all have the stats of giant slayers, gain skirmish and also shift to rares (isn't our special section a little too full?)

I want the gyrocoptor to not have a weird template rule for shooting, to get impact hits like a chariot, and possibly have some obstacle-like rule to represent the danger of the blades spinning when being charged.

I'd like Thanes to have a reason to take them rather than for a BSB.

And of course . . . army wide stubborn.

What I hope happens is as following

1. Dwarfs are 6 points, not 8...
2. Gyrocopters flame cannon moves up in str
3. Thunderers move down to 11-12 points, 14 is just insane for armor piercing
4. This is just a lotto wish really. TAKE OUT the warmachine damage table, I'm getting a bit tired of spending 120-130 points for a warmachine and having it blown up on the 1st turn. Dumbest idea GW could have come up with...
