I am currently looking for a printable decal paper that would be suitable for mini's i'm looking more for terrain type details. i want to print things like caution yellow and black stripes, checkerboard patters like the orks use. maybe a standard or a "caution" stamp to put near doorways and hatches.

If you've never done this before, make sure you follow the instructions to the letter. Best of luck to you.

You don't use iron-ons on minis ...

They are printed out right way around (unlike iron-ons).
If you are using the inkjet paper, you have to wait for the ink to dry THEN varnish it (otherwise the inks will wash off when you apply them).
If you are using LASER decal paper, then you don't need to varnish them.
The papers are NOT interchangeable.

I was fairly sure i wasn't going to stick an iron to one of my ork bosses or a terrain piece lol... but much thanks for the heads up on the sealant and printing it forward. lol i would have botched that part for sure.

I'll put this up so you will know how to get a good result, I apologize if you already know the following but you would be surprised how many builders do not know how to get a good looking decal job.

Make sure your work is dry before sealing it, and you need to use a spray sealer (see the Micro Mark site). Let everything dry over night at least. Now on to step two....

Spray clear gloss over the piece you want to put the decal on, Gloscote or Krylon both work fine. You need a glass smooth surface for the decal will look painted on.

Cut out your decal as close to the work that you can, you need to get as much carrier film removed as possible, and dip it in lukewarm water for a few seconds. Take the piece out and put it paper side down on a paper towel. wait about a minute and then slide the decal on the mini or structure and blot it down with a Q-tip.

Okay, this can get muddied but I'll try to keep it clear...

If you are putting the decal on a compound curve like an arm or face, or the decal won't stick, you will need to use a setting solution or a solvent....
http://www.micromark.com/decal-accessories.html they are near the bottom of the page.

Get the decal as close to where it should be and put a drop of solvent on top, don't do anything else and walk away until it dries. It will wrinkle up, distort and otherwise look like it got ruined. It's not, when you come back the marking will be melted into the paint and sucked down over the underlying details.

Once you are done and everything is dry spray your work with Dullcote to seal everything up. I know this sounds like a lot of work but the end result is worth it. When a friend of mine owned a hobby shop here in town we held clinics for the gamers so they could build and paint their armies to a point where they were taken seriously by the guys that only built "traditional" model kits. I hope this helps you out, since I don't know how long you have been building I want to give you all I have learned so that in the long run it helps everyone.
