Some time ago I painted some of the dreaded softplastic Vong by WotC

I real serious repaint, glossy rather "slimy" alien armour, matt skin and weapons and all based on some scenic alienish resin bases.

And before you ask what the Vong are:
“The Yuuzhan Vong ("Children of Yun-Yuuzhan", also called the Chosen Race, and sometimes incorrectly abbreviated to Vong, which implied that one was disowned by one's family and one's gods) were a sentient species which nearly destroyed the New Republic, and were responsible for the deaths of nearly 365 trillion sentients during their invasion of the galaxy.” Wookiepedia

For me the Vong story line was simply the best of the expanded universe so far. I know that many did not liked them and think that they are not fitting into the SW universe, for me they were a very believable villainous race.

Nice! I am glad to see another fan of the Yuuzhan Vong. You did a real good job making these models look a lot better.

I had always wanted to repaint some myself. I probably would have if I could have figured out a way to remove the thick coats of paint on them. Some of the pre-painted models (even some of the heroclix minis) actually have nice sculpts but they are usually wasted due to the thick coats of paint.

Also I like the bases quite a bit!

If I remove the prepaint etc. I am not stripping the paint entirely, on particular thick areas I am scratching the paint away and most of the time I remove the mold lines. Then a thourough rub with a paint thinner to remove all grease and stuff. After that a coat of matt varnish that my colours are better sticking. That's it.

To be honest, I found the series hard to get into. A lot of people say that one should start with "star by star" and then pick up on the beginnings.

However, the further I got in the series, the more the Yuuzhan Vong grew on me. Nowadays, Im quite fond of their attitude, their looks and weaponry.

Awesome looking minis AAN Thanks for sharing!

You are welcome!
What I like about the Vong was their twisted religion and Robot hate, very dedicated and narrow minded. Just as villain should be...

I also likded the setting since you can combine Stormtroopers with Jedi to fight a common enemy!

Nice paintjob, they look a lot better now. The bases help a lot as well.

Not a big fan of the books though. New Jedi Order was the point where I stopped reading Star Wars. Sure, it started out interesting enough, but it took way too long and the whole thing about the living planet was just weird. I'm also a bit pissed, that they had to kill Anakin, just when he was getting interesting.

Oh my God, I know this topic is old, but I just needed to reply, showing my glee at finding other people who actually like the NJO series.
I've been trying to find other fans of this, but holy crap, the internet is OVERWHELMINGLY negative about the Yuuzhan Vong. I love this book series, and it's nice to see there are other people who enjoy it, as well.

I'm not alone after all. Thank you.
