itll be quite a short thread but this is something ive wanted to tell someone for ages

i was playin a 2500pts game versus a reasonably begining tyranid player at my local GW
when i realised after his carnifexs utterly destroyed a fenrisian wolves squad, that after all my attacks the carnifexs still struck last in close combat; and at initiative 2, it was quite understandable.

this gave me an idea, in the 3rd turn that i would use 'jaws of world wolf'* against the brood of carnifexes and all 3 failed and died
this meant i didnt even have to use my second phycic attack!

please feel free to share your experiance of takin advantage of a low initiative.

*- (jaws of world wolf) draw a 24''line across the board in any chosen direction in the rune priests line of sight
anything that touches this line has to take an initiative test; if failed they are removed from play regardless of
thier remaining amount of wounds.

aaaaaaaahhhh!!!!!!! rainbows!

Yesterday playing my Tyranids against someone's Necrons. I tabled him at the top of turn 3.

Even my termagants (without a Tervigon bonus) knocked down 2 Lychguard, my Tyrant Guard with their mighty I 3, and the Hive Tyrant knocked down the whole squad. No stand-up rolls allowed if you knock them all down.

I believe he means that because the termies are striking at ini1 he killed them before his guardsmen could get puréed, so It's still relevant.

I once took out 10 bloodletters with a 8 man GH squad (with a RP and WG) before they could attack as they struck last having taken murderous hurricane to the face in my shooting phase

Well as I play a crap load of low initiative CC (vanilla marines), I remember when I assaulted a carnifex thinking that I would weather the hits and kill it with my fists.......needless to say that this was never accomplished.

What are you talking about? Hammernators strike at I1, so its relevant.

As for other examples, 3 Genestealers charging into difficult terrain against a squad of 10 Guardsmen and getting bayoneted before they could strike!

Yeah! Good work! Way to show that beginner who's boss by wiping out 420+ points of his army with a single dice roll. Good tactics!

Well, hardly suprising if they were 5,000 sons and Ahriman, that's outnumbering taken to an extreme!

Frostaxe, unles you where charging those carnifexes I think you have misunderstood the second psycic power as you can only shoot one ranged weapon each turn. You can not shoot 2 powers each turn.

Also, the Jaws vs Tyranids is one of the worst exampels of game balance in this game. Many of the almost mandatory units in the tyranid codex have very low inisiative.

If I recal corectly JotWW, the cost of grey hunters and the cost of long fangs are the 3 complaints moast of the complainers have on the SW codex. (Thunder wolves coming at a 4th, but is not realy sutch a game breaker.)

I would check page 50 of the rulebook if I were you.

Also, make sure you know how Lord of Tempests interacts with the Space Wolf FAQ, going second and the end of a game turn.

He can use 2 psychic powers a turn, but using a PSA counts as using a ranged weapon and you are only allowed to shoot one ranged weapon a turn. So unless you have a rule saying you can fire 2 or more ranged weapons you are only allowed 1 PSA a turn. BTW, you also have to roll to hit with Jaws since it is a PSA.

Now now, their lies a line between taking advantage and simply swamping your enemy with elite troops and characters.

Terminators with storm hammers/power fists stay away from blobs precicely because of this.
A "standard" power blob would kill 2 of them before they even got to strike.

It sucks, but it's certainly manageable. Moral of the story is, Don't get into Close combat with Anything, unless you Wraiths.

If I get my Hive Tyrant, a Tyrant Guard, and Termagaunts pile into any squad, it's going to die, lol. I don't see why it's any surprise the Necrons went down in this case.

...Yeah, maybe he won't field broods of 3 carni's, sitting in a blob waiting for a jaws.
You might as well complain about a marine noob who puts his 10 man tac squad into a little blob with sarge leading at the front...charging at a leman russ tank.
You try and tell him it's not a good idea. You show him the math. You do a pretend shot and show how all his marines can die in one shot.
But he won't listen. Sigh, and let him send in the marines. He'll learn. He'll learn nice and quick
