Hey all! So my FLGS has been getting more hot and heavy into fantasy - but here's the problem. The longest any of us have played WHFB is about 6 months!! Lately it feels like the games have a rules dispute every 15 minutes - especially with one guy who likes to change the rules as he goes. I'm a 40K player and there are a few more 40K vets... but that's about it for experience. Any instance where page numbers can be sited in the BRB or LRB would be appreciated. We own both.

That said, I have a number of questions based just on my game last night with more to come! The game was a 2 v 2 High Elves and Beastmen vs Empire and Lizard Men - 2000 points per side

A: The high elves had a unit of swordmasters with Cadryan attached. The unit was reduced to one model and Cadryan. I pen fire with 10 muskets. Question: Do all the hits get allocated to the single model meaning Cadryan will be unscathed because he's a single model (As my oppoent says) or 1. Can Cadryan be picked out with a LOS rolll becuase the unit is below 5 models (FLGS Prorprietor beleives) or 2. Even wound distribution (Which I know to be 40K but curious if there is something to that effect here) or 3. Single dude dies and Cadryan makes a ld check on his ld 9 to single handedly dominate the middle of the battlefield (which is what we agreed would happen).

B: High Elves mage was bunkered in 25 archers. I fired my cannons against the mage. I hit every time but my opponent said it's distributed for shooting and so the wounds are taken on the rank and file. On page 113 in BRB (Who's been hit) the text reads that the cannon ball is "a special kind of template" and "any model" between the cannon and its ending point is hit, not "any unit" I would agree he can get the 2+ LOS roll which he got against the mortar - but do I sitll have a 1 in 6 chance of plastering his mage with my cannons?

C: Can items on a character unit be used such as a dispel scroll? We could not find any reference to indicate items cant, with the obvious exception of items with a bound spell. In this instance beastmen had some talismen allowing Cadryan to reroll his to wound results, even tho the wizard it was on was fleeing. Also where does it state that items do not need to be revealed until used? My oppoennt seems to magically have the right item for every situation every time.

D: We had essentailly played a pitched battle with a 24" no man's land separating us. He had bellied up his big herd of beastmen to the line so I bellied up my Hellblaster Volley Gun with the intent to fire on turn 1. My opponent said no - they are 24" apart but in essence just outside of the range of the HBVG (Even tho they were in fact 24" apart exactly). Without the desire to argue so early in the game I was like "yea, whatever". Who was right? Was I robbed of a turn of firing or was he right and we were "essentailly" out of range even tho we had both bellied up to the line.

Strangely enough later in the game he was exactly 11 inches to the very tip of my cannon - like, a CM more and he would have been out of range. Of course the "essentially" out of range thing did not apply in this instance to him.

Which leads to another issue - how do you deal with getting that extra inch in on models? Picking stuff up and puting it down closer to the enemy and the sort. he had a nasty habit of that.

A: Pg99 (Shooting) Says that Charater can not be hit if there are five or more RnF models (not counting the champion model). In your case, he would allocate the hits evenly between the single dude and Cadryan before wounds are rolled.

B: Correct. The mage would get a LOS roll, If failed the mage would be hit.

C: Part 1)
FAQ 1.5
Q: Can a fleeing model dispel spells or use magic items? (p24)
A: Yes.

Part 2) Also where does it state that items do not need to be revealed until used?
Ive seen it in the book, cant find it atm. But that depends on the players. Normally the WHFB games are closed list. Items are only revealed when used. But he should have the items listed on his army list before game.

D: 24" , You would get the shot if you was both 24" apart.

A: Evenly distrubuted between the models, 1/2 and 1/2. If its an odd number of hits then you decide who takes the extra one.

B: 2+ LoS save, on a one the wizard takes the hit

C: Talismans and other magic items only effect their bearer unless it says otherwise. That Talisman would only allow the Beastmen character to reroll his to wound results.

You have the option to play with Open or Closed lists. Open lists means you show each other your army lists, including magic items, before the game begins. Closed Lists means you don't show before the game begins, but you must show him the individual characters stuff if a question comes up. In other words, it MUST be written down who has what item so there isn't any cheating going on.

As you are new to the game, Open Lists are the best way to play.

D: You measure from your Barrel to his unit. If they are 24" or less away you get to shoot him. Ranges are exactly as they are. If he accidentially deployed too far forward/you set up the board wrong that is his fault and should suffer for it.

If you were playing the standard deployment you start *more* than 24" apart.
