This is probably an easy one for someone to answer, regarding platoons and force organisation for IG.
Lets say i take comissar yarrick and 2 vet squads, that is my compulsory hq and 2 troops taken, can i then take say infantry squads units from the platoon choices as individual units of troop choice?

No if you want infantry squads you have to take them as part of a platoon, including the Platoon Command Squad.

Iirc platoons require a platoon command unit and 2 infantry platoons (minimum). You would have take all compulsory parts of a platoon, however the entire platoon counts as 1 troop choice.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

If they have a platoon command squad that they didn't mention on the batrep, then it was done correctly as you must take 2 infantry squads and a PCS to use them in a game.

Hey guys, thought I would just tack on my question here instead of starting a new post and bothering everyone. I just started building my new IG army and I'm kinda confused about how the platoons work. At the back of the Codex it says that the platoon composition is made up of a platoon command squad, 2-5 infantry (minimum 2 squads like what was said before) 0-5 heavy weapon squads, special weapon squads, etc...but earlier in the codex it says, "Infantry Squads (not other infantry units such as conscripts, veterans, heavy weapons squads, etc.) have the option of forming combined squads."
So what are your options then? Can you take a PCS, 5 Infantry squads, 5 heavy weapon squads and combine them into a platoon, or can't you?
Also it says that you must make this choice at deployment, which is after you write up your army list. and since you can only have 6 troops choices, does that mean you can only have 60 infantry on the board? that doesn't make any sense, right?
Sorry for the noob questions. I've played SM all my life and I'm really excited to jump into a new army. I hope someone can answer my questions.

@Red Pax, it just means say i have a platoon with a pcs and 4 infantry squads, I can make them infantry squads join up into one 40 man unit counting as one killpoint instead of the independent 4. Or I could have them all separate and they'd be a kill point each. With that platoon i could have 2 20 man squads or 30 man and a 10 man. With the make this choice at deployment it just means you can't break the big squads into it's original 10 man squads throughout the battle and you can't join 2 or more 10 man squads into one squad during the battle. With combined squads they have to be in the same platoon and only infantry squads can do it not conscripts, heavy weapon squads, special weapon squads and platoon command squads.

The platoon is:
1 PCS
2+ Infantry squads
0+ / 0+ heavy and special weapon squads
You can combine the infantry squads ONLY into a single unit - but it is still part of the platoon as a whole, regardless of how many units it is on deployment.

So could you take 6 platoons with 5 infantry squads in each platoon?

And heavy weapon squads, special weapon squads and conscript squads can be added to that platoon and deployed in whatever fashion I wish at deployment? Last question, I swear.

They are deployed with their squad, just like any other unit. They can't be joined together with the infantry squads, but ICs can join them. They are still troops and thus scorring. This of course assumes that you are allowed to deploy them in that location. The can also be deployed inside any open non-dedicated transports, ie a valk or vendetta.
