And that's whaht I think:

Full 6 slots of hormagaunts, we get 180 bodies for 1080 points naked. Taking tyrant with upgrades, ar something against vehicles, and we're ready to set off to 1500 or so points games.
What in the world can stop that? Will this list be competitive enough? 'Cause even sqadrons of basilisks will have hard times exterminating all this bodies, standing on maximum distance between each other.
The only thing I could think of - 4-6 units of snipers, who are really lucky. Or am I being to over-confident 'bout all this?

Purifier spam will hurt with cleansing flame. If I was going to tackle that list I would unload everything into the synapse guys, then charge and use CF. After storm bolters, pyscannons, and CF poor hormies just die. I say this from experience because I played a list similar (120 hormies)

Once the Tyrant and what ever anti-tank you take is dead you lose against mechanized lists. To fill out that extra 420 points you have there I'm guessing a Hive Tyrant plus Tyrant Guard (if you don't he's dead on turn 1....even with the Guard he could be dead on turn 1) and 2-3 Hive Guard.

That's not nearly enough AT and only a single MC will attract ALL of the enemy's AT fire.

Yeah from what I've seen, a combo of MC's and some of the little guys (damn gene stealers) tend to be the better of the lists built with Nids.

i would cut back to 2 full squads becasue you do not have enough synapse creatures and even with a single hive tyrant you wouldn't be able to have all of your hormagaunts in synapse range if you still want to have a mass amount of tyranids think about getting 2 tervigons with 6wounds and the ability to spawn free units and the tervigons you can either take as a hq or TROOP so thats even more points freed up and as for AT i would get a group of hive guards with the ability to shoot through terrian and the very good strength of the impaler cannons makes them a very effective AT unit and after that if you have the points get a trygon prime for the added close combat and synapse

Everything has a way to take care of it, but standard destroy everything lists that people run would probably have some difficulty.

I'm going to be trying 15 man Genestealer squads with an Old Adversary Tyrant ... should be fun.

AFAIK, gaunts have "feed" behaviour, so dropping out of synapse won't hurt them too hard, and for 420 remaining points I'd took some zoanthropes in spores. And talking of BA/GK - they are OP in 5th edition, so I'm not taking the, in mind, 'cause in my area meta we deny to play them.

My two cents on this...Thats a lot of bugs, would look really cool. And thats about it. Not enough AT for anything. Have a tread head player go all bug masher on your little guys. Bottom line, Id say it would be a fun list just not very competitive.

Sounds like a terrible idea. Do you like to take tank shock checks on leadership 6? Seems like it would be a very very very simple matter to just run the entire army off the board.

Just thought of something... taking morale checks would also be bad news. Enemy kills even 25% of your T3 unit and they are probably fleeing the battle. Ugh... tought to win.

Even if none of that happens, hormogaunts just aren't that good. Enemy in terrain, and suddenly your hormogaunts are striking last in combat. T3 and 6+ save is going to lose a lot of guys. If you lose combat by even 1 point you are taking checks on Ld5 and probably not rallying again.

A far better option than tons of gaunts is genestealers with tervigon support. You get FnP on a T4 base which makes you far more survivable, you have rending, S4 as well as infiltrate.

Consider you can get 2 units of 20 gene stealers, 2 Tervigons and 20 gaunts for about 1000pts. That's Troops taken care of as well as a decent amount of support as well. I do my best to run nids competitively and it's one of the best setups I have found.

Oh yes, it is.

Hormagaunts aren't bad, but you need something to camp objectives with...

AV 10, meet adrenal glands. I might only pen 16% of the time, but 90 attacks means I'm going to pen a few times.
