I'm going to assemble a small six man Sternguard veteran squad. Should I equip them with two combi-meltas for more bolter fire or regular meltas for more tank busting ability?

Personally, Id take the combi's. You payed the points for the special ammo, use it.

Combis all the way, they're cheap as dirt and look cool to boot. And you get to keep the fancy bullets.

Thanks for the quick advice guys. I thought so too. Now they are assembled and ready to be primed.

Depends on how you want to use them. From a rhino probably 2 solid meltas is best. Or in a drop pod I like taking a couple of meltas as I can get carried away and shoot too many combis when they land. If they are aiming for close quarters then I like the slots being used for heavy flamers to add a little meat shield removal.

I don't think it's an either/or question. Best Sternguard use I've seen is a full 10-man unit combatsquadding out of a Pod. For this use I'd take 2 regular meltas and 8 combis. As Fletch suggested, please describe what use you intend them to have...

Actually with the drop pod it can be good to bring 2 heavy flamers and 8 combimeltas as you have to expect the opponent will hide tanks behind meat shields or not leave too many reachable from one pod or other antipod tactics. The flamers still give 2 lots of 4 melta shots at 2 targets.

Although it has massive cool factor I'm not convinced HFs on Sternguard add much, I know they're supposed to be ultra-adaptable but investing in more AI seems redundant. As good as combimeltas are, they still burn out their AT capacity in 1 phase...
