There's a small tourney coming up next month, and I'm considering the following. Any helpfull advice is appreciated.

HQ-
Rune Priest -115
Chooser of the Slain, Meltabombs Some Psyker Powers

Rune Priest -110
Chooser of the Slain, Some Psyker Powers

Troops-
10 Grey Hunters -185
Wolf Standard, Mark of the Wulfen, Plasmaguns.

10 Grey Hunters -180
Wolf Standard, Mark of the Wulfen, Meltaguns.

10 Grey Hunters -180
Wolf Standard, Mark of the Wulfen, Meltaguns.

10 Grey Hunters -180
Wolf Standard, Mark of the Wulfen, Meltaguns.

10 Grey Hunters -180
Wolf Standard, Mark of the Wulfen, Meltaguns.

6 Grey Hunters -105
Wolf Standard, Mark of the Wulfen, Meltaguns.

Elites-
6 Wolf Guard - 138
Combi-Plasma x6

Heavy Support-
6 Long Fangs -140
x5 Missile Launcher

6 Long Fangs -140
x5 Missile Launcher

5 Long Fangs -175
x4 Lascannon

total: 1848

I'm thinking this would deny armor targets to my opponents, and field 81 marines. My question here is: should I unpimp the GH packs a bit and use those points for more scouts? PAWG? Long Fangs?

Seems fairly solid.

But you have very little ranged firepower, so any stand and shoot army will cause you severe problems.

I'm not sold on the power fists in the gh squads, and would like a third long fang squad because of the problem mentioned above.

I get the feeling the wolves are there because you had some spare points, they're a bit iffy on their own really.

Get some more long fangs, and even a second rune priest would provide more long range firepower.

That said 80+ marines is awkward to get rid of, just some issues with enemy armour and shooting.

Good luck with it, and hope this is useful.

In a vacuum, Fenrisian Wolves aren't that good. Personally, I'd drop them, one of your Wolf Scouts packs and use the points to upgrade your Rune Priest to Njal Stormcaller (Grey Knights players will HATE you).

I'd love to see this army go up against a horde of orks, or a battlewagon blitz brigade...that would be painful to watch...

Sounds like solid advice.

I had thought to use them to screen a squad or two of the GH for a couple turns on the way in, but you're right, 80 pts is too much for what they're really bringing here.

I'm honestly not sold on Njal stormcaller; why should I choose him over two Rune Priests for, specifically?

In a good way, a bad way, or an ugly way?

To start with, Njal has all 7 SW psychic powers--useful on those occasions where a Thunderclap would really come in handy. He's a Master of the Runes, (which really isn't worth taking on normal Rune Priests, but what the hey) so he could, say, blast foes with Living Lightning and then cockblock Deep Strikers and JSJ with Tempest's Wrath, or use a force weapon, or give your units cover saves in clear terrain. He gives you options you wouldn't normally have. His runic weapon blocks opposing psykers on a 3+, instead of a 4+ (like I said earlier, GK loathe him). Plus, free Chooser of the Slain.

Njal is a less good then 2 rune priests, they have greater board coverage and don't require as much baby sitting to get the most out of. A free chooser of the slain and master of the runes is not that great when you can still only use 1 shooting attack per turn. For the worth of a landraider you should get something far more useful out of it.

What I will say is try to fit in another chooser of the slain, you may need to give a bolter to one of your priests but that isn't the end of the world as they will probably be using a psycic shooting attack anyway and they are not so great in cc as to loose you much there. Another thing worth looking at is trying to go with the wolf banner rather then MOTW for your large squads since it offers a greater buff to the unit and saves you some points to spend on some laz cannons to stick in a long fang squad for a chance at taking out landraiders etc. I haven't the time to work out the relative statistical advantages but someone probably has.

Otherwise it should be a fun list.

It's not the size of the blade, it's how you use it.

You're off on 5 points for your grey hunter units. They're 195 points each in the first 5 units.

Also Flamers aren't generally worth it, i'd much better go with 2 more meltas for 5 extra points. 9 Marines plus Wulfen using their standard should be plenty of anti-horde in assault, and 16 rapid-fire bolters and 2 meltas the turn before should also decimate a few

Not unless there's been some changes in upgrade points cost

If I had the extra 5 points. I suppose I could drop MotW from two squads, give the first Rune Priest a CotS and the flamer squad meltaguns; spend the last 15 pts on a WTN or WTT for one of the Rune Priests. Or meltaguns and a fifth ML Long Fang...

10 Grey Hunters: 150 pts
Wolf Standard: 10 pts
Mark of the Wulfen: 15 pts
Power Weapon: 15 pts
First Meltagun: 5 pts
Second Meltagun: 0 pts

Total: 195 pts

That way you need to fund 25 extra points for those 5 units. I'd suggest dropping 1 LF giving you 25 points. Thats enough to upgrade all 5 units.
I'm not spending 15 points on power weapons for 3 attack Grey hunters, i reserve them for when i use WG but don't wanna dish out for the PF. Motw has ALWAYS paid for themselves though, in every single game i've played. I'd rather spend those 15 points saved from removing just 1 Power Weapon on upgrading for another Chooser, and the extra 5 after that to upgrade your flamer unit.

Well now, don't I feel just silly. I like that suggestion.
