I'm not sure how newsworthy this is but if it serves to keep people's computers safe and clean I feel it should be posted.

I just tried to visit bartertown and I was notified it is now listed as an attack site. I know the admins and crew try to take very good care of the site and restore it as fast as they can during downtime so let's all hope everything is back to normal soon.

Edit: According to the staff there everything is fine now.

I am receiving the same warning too.

Hopefully things are cleared up quickly as I have some outstanding trades at the moment.

We are aware of this indeed. Working as quickly as we can to get the site back to normal.

Thanks for the words of encouragement.

What do you mean "listed as an attack site"? By your firewall / browser security, I guess?

There was a brief time when Google listed the entire Internet as an attack site.

You haven't made it on the internet unless Google has declared your site unsafe at least once.

Not Btown. Would've had to be Warseer. I remember it happening on BoLS, too.

I've been offline for days, so this is the first I've heard of it.

Attack Sites are Web sites that try to infect your computer with malware when you visit. These attacks can be very difficult to detect; even a site that looks safe may be secretly trying to attack you. Sometimes the Web site’s owner won’t even know that the site has been turned into an Attack Site.

Posted by one of our Admin (he's one of the few "code" guys we have):
For whatever reason, Google flagged us as having malware.

As soon as this was brought to my attention, I contacted our host and had them run a scan. They found absolutely nothing.

I contacted Google, gave them this information, and asked them for a review of the site. They've since dropped the issue, and we are no longer flagged as having malware.

I do not know why this happened, but it would appear Google's trying to take over the world, and we got in the way. We've since stepped aside, and I, for one, welcome our new multi-colored overlords.

Crisis: Averted.

You may all now return to your regularly scheduled trading.

FWIW - I'd bet if Google's crawler happened upon a link to some malware that a spam account posted, you'd get flagged. If the account was created, posted, indexed, banned, post deleted, Google would think you're linking to terribad things, but you'd be completely innocent.

Nah. We don't get a lot of spam there. Plus, our staff is so diverse that we almost always have someone on there 24 hours a day. So, it gets moved fast when it does hit the site.
There was no spam posted within a 24+ hour window prior to this happening.

Good thought, though, and something to keep in mind for future considerations.

On similar note I tried to buy some stuff from Bitsandkits last weekend, only to be warned off by the same type of message. Anybody else had this happen? It was annoying as they had just got a restock and when I went to try again the following day all the stuff I wanted was sold!
