Ok so im looking at beginning a small IG army for the change of pace from my MEQ CSM and SW armies, but im confused about some stuff,

I see on FW they have Elysian troops and i really like their models, so i started reading about them an i like the style of play, dropping from gunships and dropping armoured sentinels from the sky and such.

But im confused because the IG dex doesnt have their units listed, is there an alternate set of rules that you use to play an elysian list? How taboo is using alernate rules at your FLGS?

Are they a competitive list at say, 500-750 points?

Thanks for ny help!

You need Forge World's Imperial Armor 8 to have access to the Elysian Army List and their special rules.

The reason why you don't find Forge World units in the Imperial Guard Codex is because Forge World is an independent suppliment to Games Workshop. While Games Workshop does allow the use of Forge World models, rules, and army lists, they won't help sell another company's models .

As for being taboo, they're really not that terrible. Players are more inclined to be afraid of Forge World Army's or Models just from the utterance of 'Forge World', thinking that everything from Forge World is broken, which is quite the opposite.

Matter of fact, the Elysian Army List is extremely less forgiving than the current Guard Codex.

I have an Elysian Army that does quite well and everyone enjoys playing an odd-ball army. But at 750 Points, Elysians are going to be quite the challenge to be competitive against other lists.

Be warned, however, that some Tournament Organizers frown upon Forge World armies/models, but you should always ask what the rules are before you enter a tournament.

They're the same company now. They're even in the same building, and cast their models in the same factory.

However, yes, Forgeworld armies are supplements to the core rules, you need the Imperial Armour book the model.army has its rules in.

Forge World armies are just as legal as a Codex army list. You need IA 8 in order to use it though.

Now why would you say that? Do you really want that discussion to start up again, or didn't you think about it?

Because they are: both are opponent's permission only. Since IA is not as commonly known as "normal" codices, however, most people appreciate advance warning so they at least get the chance to look up the rules.

I find that if you print out the army wide special rules; stats and abilities of ForgeWorld units; and weapon stats and give them to your opposing player before you play there's less of an issue the majority of the time. Now depending if you run into WAAC players or try to play in a tournament, things might go a little awry.

But in regards to playing at a local gaming store its usually okay, but if you put effort into buying the models/conversions, paint them well, and keep copies of your special rulesets/units in arms reach you should be fine. (Just don't inlcude the points values)

What discussion, their just as legal, end of discussion. Some people just don't like to play against them, it's not like their a Fandex that you whip up on the spot so you can field a daemon prince in an IG army.......

Yeah Taros is IA3 but the whole thing was based off an out of date rule book.
The Taros thing was task force 99 wasn't it?
