It's a parody of a Katy Perry song. The autotuning should go hand in hand. Ever hear what her voice sounds like without autotune? It's like kittens against a cheese grater.

Yeah, I know the song. The Katy Perry version was kind of weak to me lyrically, but the voice wasn't that bad. This one sounds like an attempts at making a song with Glados's voice.
So....robotic.

Ouze wrote:I loathe the phrase "gamer girl". Your vagina doesn't automatically make you interesting no matter how overtly you broadcast your ownership of it.
That was my point about the patronizing bit.
Granted, having coinciding interests is rarely a bad thing, but that's hardly grounds to make someone more attractive. Especially when a lot of the time, it's just a girl who's doing so to gain attention. That's not to say that women can't enjoy the same hobbies in the same way men do, but there's no point in idolizing it.
Of course, that also begs the question, why do such interests end up belonging to a largely male based audience, which brings up the issue of our 'nerdier' media such as games and comics alienating female audiences in one way or another (I'd imagine the objectification of women popular in many of the 'nerdier' mediums isn't exactly a selling point). But that's besides the point. Granted, men and women are wired differently and enjoy different things, but if 40% of the videogame playing public is women(yes, Farmville and Poggle are videogames, despite your protests), why is it that the bigger industry has yet to really target women as a major demographic in the production of larger, triple A titles?

Well, if anything it seems like it's slowly going in that direction. Small steps or otherwise. Look at mass effect, you've always had the option of being a female for the main character

Despite the fact that I greatly dislike the Mass Effect series, and am not a huge fan of Bioware at all, I have to agree there.
It's just dissapointing when you consider that for as long as the medium has been around, there are very few actually interesting female characters (and by interesting, I mean in dimensions that go beyond cup size). Granted, you could possibly raise a similar argument for videogame characters in general with that.
Other characters I champion as being truly interesting genuinely feminine (this is important here, remember, just giving a female character masculine traits solves nothing) characters include The Boss from Metal Gear Solid 3, Bayonetta from Bayonetta, and Jenna Angel from Digital Devil Saga. Just examples though.

As a male nerd i find most vagina bearing efforts to relate to geeks to be a positive thing. After all, having a vagina bearing partner who plays games is never a bad thing. Just saying.

I have to think if you asked, say, 10 gamers to do a word association with "Lara Croft", at best only 2 people would name a non-physical characteristic.
If there is a more noble subject to spend my 4,000th post on than discussing giant videogame boobs, I can't imagine it.

Case and point, Gears 3. Introduce female gears but make them stick thin. WHAT THE FETH!
You can't justify the inclusion of a female character if she isn't going to fit within the established story.
I'm glad that Mass Effect allows for a female lead character, although I just play as standard male Shepard.
Bioware put effort into their female characters, and while they all wear figure hugging catsuits, they at least warrant a place in the universe.
I wish they would get rid of the myriad romantic sub plots.
Also; Seth Green, I am disappoint.
Medium of Death has, once again, said everything i was going to say but before i could say it which implies he either thinks likeme or has somehow bugged my brain...

Katy Perry isn't a horrible live singer by any stretch, just not terribly remarkable.
If women want to be involved in something they will. The majority I've interacted with could give a gak about "the objectification of women in gaming" as they just find gaming itself boring on some level. Men are more competitive, and that's it, plain and simple. Would a man or woman want to buy a mini of an obese female or play a cut and paste game where one was the main character instead of a generic muscular dude with a "badass" attitude? How about a game where you play as a divorced, post-menopausal woman trying to rediscover herself? Even in media, there was a time when a modicum of respect existed for Roseanne, Kirstie Alley or Rosie O'Donnell, but now people, even many women, view them as fat and annoying. On the flip side we have strong, generally-liked, big ladies like Queen Latifah but they are few and far between. I know anytime I've gotten a female interested in trying a game they typically jump to choose the "hot chick." You don't go into a fantasy world to be something you already are.

I usually tend to stick with myself, probably because I'm doing it wrong lol. I understand the reasoning behind people playing characters that are nothing like them in real life. Instead of being the skinny guy who works in an office you can be the super ripped barbarian who doesn't have to deal with stupid, you just axe everything. Or the clumsy guy who likes to play the rogue and sneak around. Generally doing thing you aren't capable of in real life. When I get into such games, I like to try to put myself in the situation as best I can simply to see how I would manage in that sort of situation. There's no wrong way to go about things.

It's impossible for someone to completely divorce themselves from any sort of role they take short of schizophrenia, TBF. Any character you ever play is some manifestation of part of your personality in one form or another, sort of how every actor can bring a different angle to the same role.
