So I just got the Kaeris box and everything in it seems worth taking. I'm completely new to arcanists however and I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions on what I could get to use with Kaeris? Any suggestions would help lots!

While I've bought the Kaeris starter I haven't used it yet, so keep in mind the suggestions are only based on what I was thinking when making purchases.

1. Johan, Renegade Steamfitter. Sure, he's a Outcast mercenary, but he's also an Union member so he's legal. He's got a ranged attack, and he's good in melee, which the starter figures are not. While I prefer ranged (Rasputina is my first master/crew), a ranged crew needs at least one melee figure to deal with figures that close with yours, or they need figures with Gunslinger (which Gunsmiths do). My Ice Golem has long since been replaced with a Gunsmith in Raspy's crew for this reason. Johan has Gunslinger, a strong melee attack, and has some toughness-related bonus that I can't remember (Hard to Wound? or Slow to Die?), but he's a pretty potent figure for the points.

2. Injun Joss. Again, he's Union. He's better with Ramos, but he's good in melee and has some flexibility with the power tokens.

3. Large Steampunk Arachnid. MSU Asset. Don't have the cards with me, but IIRC, its fast, so it can keep up with Kaeris.

The above figures are what I bought to use with my Kaeris starter, but since I haven't used them in a game, I can't say if my reasoning was sound.

Keri's works well in the showgirls thanks to collette's soul stone factoring and disappearing act.

Okay, have my cards now. Johan is better than I remember. He has Hard to Kill and Slow to Die. His melee attack (Relic Hammer) is magical and ignores Armor. Also, he gets +2 Cb on melee and ranged attacks when within 3" of another M&SU Member. However, he doesn't have Gunslinger. He only costs six soulstones, which is a bargain.

Joss is 9 soulstones, and his power tokens let him do extra melee damage, get Armor, or Reactivate (although this last also costs 2 wounds).

Slighty incorrect, Johanns Dues paid ability means he costs 1 less ss when hired by an M&SU member like Colette/Ramos.

Johann costs 7ss for Kaeris to hire as she doesnt have M&SU membership, so you have to add the mercenary premium as well.

Kaeris works well in a Colette crew as she can make immolate markers which Colette can then drop enemy models in due to Disappearing Act spell causing the target to be buried, then unburied at the end of the turn within 6" of Colette

Tacticool always trumps tactics

Nice thanks for the suggestions guys. Lady J is my first crew leader, so arcanists is completely new to me, but the gunsmiths are fantastic looking so I had to get the Kaeris box haha
