When using haemies and say i purchase three (ancient and two haemies) per HQ slot like it says in the codex can i split each one up and place him in a different unit?

Yes you can split them. There is nothing their that says they have to be forced to be in a group since a heamy is a independent character he isn't really forced to be with anyone unless its a retinue I believe.

Correct.

So, you could, buy 2 HQs, each one consisting of 3 haems, and then split them into 6 different piles.

Adds up to a lot of easy KPs though.

Great way to start the game with a few units toked up on pain Attach Heamy and watch the survivability rocket..
