Bad idea to mix canon and non-canon imo. Confusion will reign supreme.

Lexicanum + fan fiction? Can't say I'm down with it. I really don't need to read the Badab War just to find that The Emperor's Anime Schoolgirls chapter decided to swing in with the aid of Chapter Master Mariette Suelius to punch Huron in the face.
It's an interesting concept, but you would need to make a clear distinction between what's canon and what's essentially fanfiction. There's a section on Dakka for the latter, and I think it's fine there. As for what's canon, we already have Lexicanum.

I do, everyone is required to put "Non-Canon" at the top of their page

Lexicanum already lets you post non-canon stuff on your userpage after a certain number of contributions (something like 100).

We TOLERATE it for regular and valued user as a small boon. In no way we are there for or want to encourage the insertion of fan-fluff into the Lexicanum. What you mean is simply that we accept that people include some of their stuff on their own user-page/ profile. Nothing more.
@Lexmechanicus:
from a practical point of view: what is there in your wiki that is not already covered by Lexicanum and Wikia? The fan-fluff (only written one since fan-made pictures are allowed in the 40K wikia) - and that you can find in all forums, be it Dakka, Warseer or whatever. Plus why would you think that people would like others have edit their self-written fan-fluff? Kind of defeats the purpose of self-created background if others modify it. In addition there are plenty of other GW games wikis, which means that the available user-pool is not exactly very big.

You mean like it already does on Lexicanum?
There's not really any difference between a BL writer and a TT gamer making stuff up as he goes, only that you have a higher degree of quality amongst the former. Usually.
I don't necessarily see the point in creating a wiki whose contents are not meant to be compatible to each other, but this already applies to Lexicanum as well and I suppose it is nice for people to have another repository where they can store their stuff to link it elsewhere, given that not everyone wants to create a whole website just for their writings, and that it just looks better than posting it on a forum. It's not something I'd do and I do not know how popular this will be, but an attempt to provide another option is quite okay, I guess.

There is a very simple but decisive difference: one is sanctioned the other is not. And that's all that counts.

To some that is all that counts, so I guess there is merit in that. Given the ability of BL writers to freely contradict each other and even the studio fluff, however, I fail to see the difference - especially when people like Gav Thorpe did say that it's all the same and there indeed is no difference. The whole "sanctioned" stuff seems to be largely made up by the community wishing for more consistency and a common ground for fluff discussions.
At least that's how it looks like to me, given that even those whose works are "sanctioned" publicly admitted that they don't care what others wrote before them.
[edit] In retrospect, I feel as if my reply may sound somewhat condescending, even hostile. Let me stress that this was not my intent. I love discussing the fluff, but am often disheartened by the influence large parts of the community vest in the material, particularly when it comes to licensed products who are then regarded as "overriding" the stuff that the studio itself has come up with, regardless of the massive contradictions or the actual comments of the writers and GW staff themselves. I very much value Lexicanum as a place to start my research and locate the sources themselves, I merely disagree with its canon policy as I have come to believe that one cannot merge what was not meant to work with each other from the start. So, apologies for the somewhat emotional responses above.

That is definitely true. I had the idea of having canon material included in Sturmkrieg, but I've dropped the idea; too confusing. Plus the only purpose of it was going to be to make the fluff seem more inclusive, by having everything together. It's rather unnecessary though.

As a discussion grows in length, the probability of a comparison to Matt Ward or Gray Knights approaches one.
