Just wondering why every says blood talons are "better for troops" I understand why they would be, however when talking about assaulting a vehicle, it seems to be implied that they are not as good as something else. Just wondering what the other better option is for assaulting vehicles?
Brand new to warhammer, trying to understand how ba dreadnoughts are most effective.

Dreadnought CC weapon hits at S10 IIRC...
AFAIK Blood Talons do not.

What does str 6(7) mean exactly? I understand now the difference, str 7 seems reasonable, but 6 is low. Can someone clarify the bracketed vs non bracketed number uses?

Str6 normally, 7 with Furious Charge.

Even so, strength 6 isn't low at all. You're wounding most infantry on 2's, and since you hit vehicles in the rear armor in assault you'll do pretty well at busting armor with that as well. Blood talons are really good regardless.

Yeah but the heavier element, e.g. Land Raiders... actually more or less just them... Are Monoliths still AV14 the whole way?, will be impossible to kill with S7. ID-ing MeQs is also nice given FnP is around a bit...

I wouldn't exactly call needing a 5+ to pen a sure thing though.

Remember that Death Company dreads have Furious Charge and Furioso Dreads can also get it, meaning they have str 7 on the charge (and unless it's against another walker, that means always when facing a vehicle). +4 to pen with 4 to 5 attacks (and glancing hits aren't as bad as some people think) sounds good to me

The Blood Talons have the same effect as Lightning Claws, so they are power weapons and ignore armor, so they deny FNP as well, so no worries on that.
The dreads also have a Meltagun, so any AV they come close to they can Penetrate.

The number of attacks with the good strength is why I said it. I'm not saying it's a superior option to the standard DCCW, but it's still an option.

Okay. So point made to blood talons being good enough to deal with vehicles, that's what I'm looking for and I won't be up against any landraiders anytime soon. Is there a reference page somewhere in the rule book where it says the bracketed number is used with furious charge as opposed to regular str 6? also, magna grapple, can that be used in addition to the melta and flamer attacks in the shooting phase as a third attack?

It doesn't say anywhere specifically bracketed like that. However, in the rules for furious charge in the rule book it states that you get +1 Strength and initiative on the charge. As Death Company Dreads already have furious charge and furiosos have red thirst they can both get it pretty easily. The magna grapple can be fired in the same shooting phase as other weapons. As a walker a dreadnought can fire all weapons.
