I have started reading my first Imperial Glory book, and In it a Tech Priest Valkyrie pilot kisses and strokes the nose of his Valkyrie before going on a mission.

and that he is "in love" with his Valkyrie.

That scene left me somewhat speechless.

"The Imperium is nothing if not willing to go to any lengths necessary. So the Trekkies are zipping around at warp speed taking small chucks out of an nigh-on infinite amount of ships, with the Imperium being unable to strike back. feth it, says central command, and detonates every vortex warhead in the fleet, plunging the entire sector into the Warp. Enjoy tentacle-rape, Kirk, we know Sulu will." -Terminus

"This great fortress was a gift to the Blood Ravens from the legendary Imperial Fists. When asked about it Chapter Master Pugh was reported to say: "THEY TOOK WHAT!?""

The Adeptus Mechanicus are an odd lot. To most of them the flesh is weak while a machine is strong, powerful, incorruptable. I wouldn't put it past them for their human emotions to alter as their body parts are replaced with bionics and implants, so it could be possible that they become fond of their 'charges' and treat them like children or, perhaps in the most twisted of minds, like lovers. Although that might border on being heretical. Hmm.

Strange, I was under the impression that the Mechanicus shunned not just organic bodies, but also organic emotions.

I should have left him there. He had served his purpose. He owed me nothing - yet he gave himself to me willingly. Why? I know not. He is nothing more than a pathetic human. An inferior race. A mon-keigh. But still I broke off my wings so that I might carry him easier. I took him from that place, into the snowstorm where our tracks will not be found. He is heavy. And he is dying. And he is slowing me down. But I will save him. Why? I know not. He is still warm. I can feel his blood ebbing across me. For every beat of his heart, another, slight spill of heat. The heat blows away on the winter wind. His blood is still warm. But fading. And I have spilled scarlet myself. The snow laps greedily at our footsteps and our lifeblood, covering them without a trace as we fade away.

'She sat on the corner, gulping the soup down, uncaring of the heat of it. They had grown more watery as of late she noted, but she wasn't about to beggar food from the Imperials or the "Bearers of the Word." Tau, despite their faults at least didn't have a kill policy for her race.'

Tech Priests worship machines. They can connect with them much in a very real manner (mechadendrites IIRC) so yeah. Eventually gonna happen.
They're all a bit mental anyway.

One of many interpretations influenced by a single author's personal opinion. *shrugs*

Personally, I see it much like Tadashi, though technically one could say that reverence is an emotion as well. I suppose it comes down to how you express it.

In theory they develop a bond with their machine, but that contradicts the Mechanicus's preferable no emotion approach. Ah the contradictions of fluff

Althought they avoid emotion and concentrate onlogic, I would say they are still not above the former. They were Human before becoming machine

The Brain is a pretty impressive organ, it has been know for some part of the brain to take over the role of other dmg or remove section

Individual Techpriests might appear to show what humans would call love for their charges. They wouldn't call it love and don't think of it like that, but it appears like that to outsiders.

Their emotions are totally messed up so its only natural things would be mixed.

Depends on who's fluff you're reading. In some, most Tech-Priests have the parts of the brain that control emotions removed and replaced with cogitator cores. In others... well... Dan Abnett, in one of the Eisenhorn novels, has a Tech-Priest literally drooling over Midea Betancore's Glavian implants as he paws over her.... that she's an attractive female is wholly besides the point, its her implants that turn his crank.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

The level of impantation depends on a Tech priests rank. a lower ranked dude might not have his emotions removed so he would still show emotions, albiet with a different focal point.

Iirc, the pilot is not a techpriest, just an imperial navy pilot who has a lot of bionic replacements after being badly wounded. And he is, well, eccentric, but 20 years of war can do that to you. I dont recall him being "in love" with his valk, though, just that he treated it kind of like a person (because he was very superstitious).

Correct. He was part of the Brimlock IG regiment, not the AM. The Brimlock 11th is chock full of characters, they're all a little bit nutty in their own, unique ways. It's a fun book.

All of them have 'metal tentacles'. They're called mechadendrites and are pretty much standard for any Tech Priest worth the name.
