So a Mek with a Kustom Force Field is sitting in a trukk. Say the trukk explodes. Would the unit inside get the cover save from the explosion wounds?

Yes? I assumed that the wording was something like "all models inside suffer a str 4 hit (3 because trukk is open topped) and I don't even see how kff could work from a fluff perspective in this situation.
So my answer is: I dunno
|
Every time I hear "in my opinion" or "just my opinion" makes me want to strangle a puppy. People use their opinions as a shield that other poeple can't critisize and that is bs.
If you can't defend or won't defend your opinion then that "opinion" is bs. Stop trying to tip-toe and defend what you believe in. |

Fluff, maybe not. But RAW, they do. Also, the hits from the explosion have no bearing on the KFF since the KFF grants a cover save, which is only taken when a WOUND happens.
As long as a unit has a model within 6" of the KFF, they get a cover save.
I would say the unit in the trukk certainly meets this criteria.

Pg. 21, COVER SAVES: What counts as cover?: "Cover is basically anything that is hiding a target or protecting it from incoming shots."
Sorry, but I hate to disagree. The hits taken from a Destroyed vehicle are not from incoming shots, therefore no cover can be taken against them. If I am wrong, please correct me, as I would surely like to get a 5+ from this.

I believe that the damage chart ( Pg. 67 IIRC, I don't have my rule book with me) specifies those hits (Vehicles Exploding) are 'treated just like hits from shooting" - I may be wrong though.

What counts as cover isn't in question here, the Kustom Force Field provides cover saves. And technically, the vehicle is exploding because of incoming shots? It doesn't seem like that strong of an arguement.

You do not get cover from the incoming the shots that destroyed the transport because they are not causing the hits to the unit. The destroyed result is. However, Dodgywop is right. Pg 67 does say that the hits are treated just like hits from shooting. Word to a 5+! Throw ya choppas in the ay-er!

Confusing wording and similar words used for different things is a GW trademark...
Cover is not the same as a cover save, simple as. Cover might grant you a cover save. The KFF also grants you a cover save and has nothing to do with cover.

Whoop Whoop There it is!!! I'm surprised by that because I would have thought that it didn't count. That is awesome.

BTW, even if the explosion wasn't a shooting hit you could still use your cover save. Close combat and a few other situations expressly deny you cover saves, this damage result doesn't.

Pg 24, Models with more than one save: "Sometimes, a model will have a normal armour save and a separate invulnerable save, [ ]. [ ] the model might be in cover as well. [ ], the model only ever gets to make one saving throw, but it has the advantage of always using the best available save."
Pg 39, Taking Saves: "Cover does not provide protection in close combat as it does against shooting."
By golly, Spetulhu is right, too. If you have a cover saving throw, and it it the best available, you can take it any time not restricted.

I would like to point out per GH! rules, 'normal saves apply'. If you have something that grants a cover save (not being in cover though) you could justify getting a cover save.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
