Just quick question, I've tried to use GW's water transfers that are supplied with the Space Marine Squad box and was highly disappointed in them. Now, my free hand is terrible else I would simply draw them. Are the Forge-world one's better, or are they just as poor? Or would I just be better off using a printable water transfer sheet from hobby lobby?

Dissatisfied with the result, or dissatisfied with the designs?

A lot of the result dissatisfactions is often down to improper preparation and treatment of the decals (use of decal softener and fixative, gloss varnish under and over, and matt to lock it down).

I just don't like the 40k space kiniggits decals, period.
So I made my own. Imperial roundels (as in Star Wars Empire) in various sizes and had them printed on laser decal film sheets.
(unlike the inkjet decal sheets, these don't need varnishing (of the decal surface) prior to even starting the application process - varnishing of the model).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

Applying decals properly is a skill.
One that has to be learned.
It requires finesse as the film is not that tough and will tear easily.

It gives older people who've been doing it for decades conniptions - it's not surprising that the under-20s are fail at it also.

It took me about 6 years to get the technique down. It's taking longer to get freehanding down.

Strangely enough my Imperial Guard Transfers went right on, but the Dark Angels Transfers are..well pretty much flipping me off at the moment.
