Hi I am thinking of doing a Imperial Guard army and would start at 500 points and have a basic army list done and would like some feedback or improvements, if it is any help will be playing Space Marines, Tau and Blood Angels.

500 points:

HQ
Company command squad

Troop
infantry platoon- platoon command squad, 2 ten man squads with autocannons

infantry platoon- platoon command squad, 2 ten man squads with autocannons

Heavy support
Hydra flak tank

Hydra flak tank

not sure on the second hydra as it could be replaced with another infantry squad with lascannon.

Thanks for your time.

All of them opponents above have some very heavy vehicles like av14 and autocannons will not pop them at all. So drop a hydra and upgrade 2 of them squads to lascannons. So you have 55 points left over, give the ccs a lascannon.now you have 35 points left over so give one pcs a lascannon and the other an autocannon or missile launcher if you give him an autocannon then you have 5 points left over. so give someone a melta bomb if that happens.

only thing is, AV 14 isn't possible at 500 points I agree I will definitely need some better anti armour eventually and do like your idea so I will consider it.

Thanks

Its definitely possible.

CCS = 50

Vet Squad with GL = 75

Vet Squad with GL = 75

Leman Russ = 150

Leman Russ = 150

Thats two in a 500 pt list. Lol.

Sorry, I'm trolling. But yes you are right, it is somewhat uncommon.

All in all, ninja13 is offering some sound advice; you need more AT. Be it in the form of LC or Melta. Dropping one of your Hydras opens up a lot of options, such as; Adding a Melta Gun to each Infantry Squad (40pts), adding a LC to your CCS (20pts) and then adding a ML to one of your PCS (the last 15pts). Or instead of the ML you could add 3 Flamers between the two PCSs.

This may be just a major no, but what about dropping the autocannons and hydras, then getting two Vendettas and a LC on the CCS? Theoretically you can get 7 TLLC a turn. No armor at 500 is safe from that. Then you can FRFSRF you vets (who are in cover near the birds) to deal with infantry. Not to mention if you don't have armor thos LC can chew up almost a squad a turn.

They’re basically an entire chapter of Chaplains. CC lunatics. What every Space Marine should aspire to be, if not trapped in a Matt Ward nightmare.

Well he'll be way over pointed, but if he drops both Hydras he can afford a single Vendetta and a LC in the CCS. That is exactly what I would do. If your enemy doesn't bring tanks or have any left, you have an extremely deadly and accurate troop killer =P

Really? (I think the CCS is correct)

HQ - Company Command squad
Lascannon
Cloaks
100 points

Troops - Veteran Squad
70 points

Troops - Veteran Squad
70 points

FA - Vendetta
130 points

FA - Vendetta
130 points
Ran this in a tourney and got 1st with all massacres. Nid player didn't even take away one guardsmen so I know it can work against hordes. FRFSRF can be massively undervalues.

I think what alot of you are underestimating is the base value of what he is going to be fighting at 500pts. Guys in power armor. The ACs are fine at this level, because the Marines are not dropping Land Raiders because they just can't afford a 200pt vehicle in a 500pt game without a HQ or two troop selections.

What he really need to do is get the core of his army down, apparently foot Guard. He needs to fill those Special weapon slots and get his troops squared away, then his core is sound and he can expand away...

CCS - 120pts
2x Plasma guns, LC, Camo Cloaks

PCS - 50pts
AC, 2x Sniper Rifles

PIS - 120pts (blob 1)
Commissar, 2x PW, Melta gun, melta bomb

PIS - 75pts (blob 1)
PW, Melta gun, Melta bomb

Vets - 135pts
3x Plasma guns, LC

500pts

Now you have some BS 4 LC shots out there, some camping scoring units to go with your CCS for Orders, and a 20 man combined squad to advance forward and take on the core units of the enemy. You have plenty of plasma and Str 9 shots if a Drop pod Dread or Death company lands in your rear to cut them down and your blob has PWs and melta guns to shoot and melta bombs if you get close enough to a stunned vehicle (and your meltas fail) to charge it or give them some form of walker defence in close combat.

Been playing 40k on and off since 89.
