I've been using zapagap on my models or (zapgap) and it's been leaving a sort of white dust on the models that I can take off with my fingers by rubbing but it's been leaving it all around the base in the flocking material I use and it's just been a pain. Why would it be doing this and how can I stop it? I'm going to have to look at other glues now so I thought I'd ask what everyone thought would be the "best" glue out there?

This is from the fumes off of the superglue (its how they fingerprint stuff in crime shows )
Try using less glue?
Ive had this happen but never cause a problem before as i glue most of my stuff together before paint and then just paint over the white powdery bit.

Will the fumes eventually dissipate? I've painted over some of it but it never seems to fully cover it =/

QFT - you will always have this kind of residue, because of the chemical reaction that occures when the glue dries. As for the flocking material, have you tried PVA glue for this kind of work? Dries clear and leaves no residue.

Also, if you're doing plastic models, you can always use plastic glue - it provides a much stronger bond and doesn't leave that dust.

What kind of glue would you guys suggest for the flocking - and then the models? Will citadel's leave the dust?

Cataphract

PVA (elmers) for flocking.
Cyanoacrylate (Zap) for metal and resin.
Polystyrene cement (plastic cement) for plastics.

That's the residue from too much superglue. It's what happens when the fumes settle with not enough airflow across it. Gharron wrote:Will the fumes eventually dissipate? I've painted over some of it but it never seems to fully cover it =/ No, the dusty white residue IS superglue. It will stay on there unless you give it a scrub. You can paint over it, but sometimes, if you use too much, you are left with a more sandpaper appearance as well or lumps and bumps. LESS is better with superglue. Are you using the yellow, green or pink? It only requres a small drop on most things to hold them. Too much is counter-productive. Learning how much is "too much" is one of those things that come with experience.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

PVA (elmers) for basing, and Cyanoacrylate for everything else (for me anyway, I HATE plastic-glue).
I like Loctite Control Gel...
And yeah, that powdery stuff is the superglue. You can't fight it really, just use less glue and you should do well.
If you want to avoid it entirely, try some 1-3 second cure superglue. You can find it at most high-end hobby shops or amazon.com. I also suggest getting some debonder at the same time... rest assured, you will need it...

Are there brand names for these things? And just elmer's? I'm headed to Mlgs tomorrow so I can buy some more. Is the citadel stuff worth a look? Would hobby lobby sell something like that?

GW's hobby tools are never worth a look. The only possible way is, if there are no hardware / art store around.
PVA glue are just white glue, they are normal glues schools use, so its available even in grocery stores.

Elmers is widely known, or any other generic white school glue. As for superglue get crazy glue, zap a gap, or (my favorite) loctite.
But i know nothing about plastic glue...
Dont bother with citadel. High prices for low quality.
