Is it best to field more than one LRR? I'm building a 1500pt Salamenders army and really would like to use this tank for fluff reasons as well as just liking it. If I field a second LR, should I just stick to a standard one so that I have a balance between long and close range?

LRR will transport Captain and a tact squad.
LR will take just a tact squad.

A side note, I'm not a fan of the Lazback, so generally have my troops on foot or in pods. I'm also not über competitive.

Go with the second Redeemer, definitely.

If you're using a Salamanders list, then you should definitely use the Redeemer, as I believe its heavy flamers and melta will become TL.

However, I'd recommend the Redeemer anyway. I just think it's the superior choice of the 3 LRs.

Yeah, but they're still sponson flame template weapons. Good luck with that.

I have some experience playing dual redeemer and I can say it is very effective. But you need to build your list so that it supports the redeemers. Ordinary landraider is a bit waste of points since you pay for its transport capasity but don't want to get close. And the two lascannons and heavy bolter is not enough firepower for its points.

Tac sq is wasted in a LRR; surely you want hammernators piling out of it? Also I'm pretty sure the wording of vulcans twin linking rule does not include flamestorm cannons, but its still the best LR imho.

It's still just a LRR. A tank that has to get into melta range to do damage.

We play with heavy urban terrain settings and i think there are more terrain than open spaces.
There are cover saves everywhere and it drives me crazy as it makes most of my ranged shooting useless.

Then there is the Redeemer, hard to kill, roast everything! whats not in roasting range gets melta + assalt cannoned D:

Well, I love Land raiders, big fan of them. But they're a little hard to fit in (particularly considering proper payload) in 1500 pts.

I also love the redeemer, but I'd advise you to have your second one be a crusader, if only for variety's sake.

Only 1 single LRR and not with a tactical squad inside.

Flamestorm doesn't have TL with Vulkan special rule so it will only work mostly as a transport to deliver the punch. To that end, any combat specialist (command squad, captain, hammer terminator, honour guards, assault squad, (or god-have-mercy) close combat scouts) will work better than a tactical squad.

One other thing to note: Vulkan + a librarian with null zone + 10 models (or 5 termies) is a force to be reckon with. Besides, since the land raider is so big, the hood range is increased to about 30".

Spend your points on a bunch of Rhino if you have other troops. If you don't, a dreadnought is a great deterrence.

Wait, huh? Are you saying Flamestorm cannons are bad without twin-linking? Wounding marines on a 2+ and denying them any save at all isn't enough for you?

No sir, not at all. I don't deny the fact that Flamestorm is great by itself. But one takes Vulkan for his TL special rule, to that end, it is good to remind the OP that the LRR doesn't get this benefit.

Thus, one is free choose a different variant of land raider (such as crusader) which gives more range and transport capacity.

Of course, instead of spending 240 pts on a redeemer, one can get a bunch of other stuff that make better use of Vulkan especially at 1500. However, that is beyond the scope of this thread.

They don't get twin-linking...
Vulkan's special rule mentions flamers, heavy flamers, multi-meltas and meltas.
The flamestorm cannon is neither.
