Pestilent Plague Marine with Blight Grenade
|
Scenario, I have an IG HQ squad that has been reduced to 2 models. One is a medic, the other is a company commander with a power weapon.
The opponent is two wolf guard with frost blades.
The wolf guard hit first and score 6 wounds.
Now this is where my opponent has a disagreement because they see it as "unfair"
I allocate a wound to my medic and my company commander, filling up the squad leaving me with 4 wounds. Because I have two different models, I allocate the rest to my medic.
The Company commander takes his invuln and passes, the medic has no invuln and dies.
My oppenent claims that the company commander MUST take the remaining wounds since the medic died. I believe that since it is a diverse unit, I can allocate the extras as I see fit. (Which allows me to strike back and kill his two wolf guard)
Help?

You are both wrong
You must allocate wounds EVENLY between all models. So the medic cannot take 3 wounds until the commander has been allocated 2 wounds
In this case each model would be allocated 3 wounds each

I thought wounds allocated to "like" models in the squads?

You said there were 2 models: the medic and the commander
You therefore have 2 models you allocate wounds to, evenly. So each model takes 3 wounds. This is wound allocation - the initial spreading of wounds evenly around the unit.
You then split them into "like" groups - identically equipped models with a pool of assigned wounds
You then take wounds within that group and remove casualties from within that group

You do. Now add 2 bodyguards and 2 normal vets with lasguns. I am intentionally ignoring the "Look out! Arghh!" rule here. And 10 wounds.
You would have to give 2 to the bodyguards, 2 to the vets, 1 to the comander, 1 to the medic. That's one per model then I would put two more on the bodyguards and vets (1 per model). You would then roll the bodyguards saves (if any), then the vets, and so on. If you fail (or don't have) 2 or more saves on the vets they are both dead even if one guy failed 2 and the other passed both since you roll by type not model.
In your example you have 2 seperate types. The commander and the medic. Any leftover wounds from the medic don't "roll over" to the comander once he dies its just overkill to the medic.

Cool thanks guys, so what should have happened is that I should have taken 3 invuln saves instead of just 1. (But not 5 like my opponent wanted me to do.)

Correct. Wound allocation like everyone is describing is what makes units like Ork Nobs so difficult when it comes to wound allocation. They can all be equipted differently so the wounds get spread very thin through the mob. Then they have 2 wounds. Then if they took a pain boy and the attack doesn't cancel FNP then they have an additional FNP save. So, wound allocation can be a neat trick to keep people/units alive and kicking longer. If Marine Terminators had multiple wounds this would be a nightmare for the same reason.
