Now that I have your attention.....

2000 point no holds barred tournament coming up. Made the NASTIEST list I could think of, let me know what you all think.

HQ - Librarian, shield + blood lance

Elite - Furioso Dreadnought

Troops - 5 man ASM (melta) in razorback (las/plas w/ HK missile)
Troops - 5 man ASM (melta) in razorback (las/plas w/ HK missile)
Troops - 5 man ASM (melta) in razorback (las/plas w/ HK missile)
Troops - 5 man ASM (melta) in razorback (TL Assault Cannon)
Troops - 5 man ASM (melta) in razorback (TL Assault Cannon)

Fast - Baal Predator (2x HB + TL AC)
Fast - Baal Predator (2x HB + TL AC)
Fast - Baal Predator (2x HF + FC)

Heavy- Predator (2x LC + AC)
Heavy- Predator (2x LC + AC)
Heavy- Stormraven (MM + EA + TL AC)

Gives me 5 predators, 5 razorbacks, and a stormraven carrying a blender dread to deal with pesky hordes that get too close.

The nastiest list I can make with the models at hand, and not too shabby I think.

I like

I like the addition of the SR to a Mech list, it's an idea I've been playing around with myself. I love me a F. Dread and this is a great way to get one into a Mech list without having it foot-slog or use a DP that will leave it too exposed

and the raven + 3 HK's on the razors gives me a 7 missile alpha-strike for turn 1 as well, in addition to my normal firepower 7 lascannons, 5 TL assault cannons... some serious firepower

You can launch all 4 of the Raven's missles at once? They still have to be at the same target right?

I was thinking of running a 2500 list with 3 ravens and 3 dreads. That would mean 15 missles first turn, thats 4-6 targets wiped off the board 1st turn.

I gotta be honest with you, this is the first time I've seen a SR integrated in a shooty (Mech) list; I myself have only considered it for alpha strike cc potential but what you have posted looks pretty damn sound.

The one gripe I have with it is that the SR will be a pretty big target as long as the Dread is still aboard, which considering the rest of the army could be quite a while. In this regard you might be just as well off footslogging the Dread, take another Dakka Pred instead of the SR and use the remainder of pts for ????

Easily a 4/5 in my book though

exactly... use the remaining points for what?

I take another predator... and then all my fast slots are full, all my heavy slots are full, and I still have 200 points to spend. I could take another razorback, but I don't actually own another one lol. And anyway, is a razorback and a predator REALLY more useful than stormraven + dread? Not sure.

Yes, its a big target, but it has 5+ cover from the librarian, and will be chilling behind my army as a counter-charge unit.

edit - though thinking about it, it might be best to switch the SR to TL LC instead of TL AC on the turret if its going to be in this role.

Well, I never suggested dropping the Dread. It can still be useful as a countercharge unit, even without the SR. As for the remainder, uh... dunno, tack on a unit of Scouts? Pretty boring I know, but indeeed you are running out of FOC slots

EDIT: nice catch on the SR's armament though!

Maybe replace its multimelta with a typhoon launcher... not sure if that would be a good idea though, I'd only have 6 meltas in the list at that point.

I think the SR is a bit of a waste if it's only carrying the Furioso. I use the SR a lot, but I always have two payloads to make up for the fact that it's an expendable transport that's likely to be the first thing off the board. If the only thing you have to show for it is a furioso, that's a mighty expensive ride.

I thought the same for a while, but really whats the point of having a second assault unit in there? Most things I want to kill, the furioso can take care of by itself. If its a monstrous creature or something, I can just gun it down. The things I'd actually worry about and need hand to hand support against are things like terminators or CC specialist units, and the furioso is very good at killing them.

Investing more into the raven just makes it a bigger target. As it is, the raven + dread costs 340 points. I can't think of a way to spend that that would give me a decent counter charge component and equivalent firepower. (don't forget, the stormraven still packs a decent punch!)

Ugh, Dakka ate my reply when it went down :(

Anyway, the issue is that list you might end up with your Furioso alone across the field. It's a good unit, but if it's alone it's in trouble. I drop Mephiston in there and if they don't reach their destination, my opponent is still forced to pick between two nasty targets and the Furioso can double as cover.

Put the army together to see if it looks intimidating enough... this looks like an army I wouldn't want to play at a tournament.

I think that you might switch the hunter killers from the Las/Plas razorbacks to the assault cannon razorbacks instead, especially if you plan to alpha strike with your army. Just so that they aren't sitting there doing nothing because they are out of range. Just a minor tweak i thought of.

Im considering it, but part of the reason I didn't do this was because im probably going to speed them forward turn 1 in order to provide support to the baals.

Horst,

I would love to play that list, it looks like fun!

Hopefully you can make terrain work toward your advantage and keep the SR out of Direct LOS.

I say play it and see what happens!

Looks good. I run the Stormraven, 2 Predators, but I use 3 Typhoon Land Speeders and a TL LC on the Stormraven. I have amazing results. The Dreadnought in the Stormraven is great. I run with a DC Dread, but the Furioso Dread is very solid for the points.

That list definitely has a shot against anything out there IMO.

Typhoons may be a good idea... I could drop my flamer baal, maybe trim some more points somewhere, and stuff in 2 typhoons.

Why not just MM Speeders? Might be a personal issue but I'm thoroughly unimpressed by Typhoons.

I've always had good luck with typhoons. Im not a fan of multimelta speeders though lol. Id rather take attack bikes.

Took this list to a tournament over the weekend, managed a 3-0 win. The games I played were:

Game 1: Vs Foot Sisters of Battle - He had 1 exorcist, and that was his ranged anti-tank. I ended up losing a vehicle turn 1 to the exorcist, and lost (I think) 3 other tanks to melta hits as his 60+ Sisters of battle with celestine came down on me. The dreadnought reaped a fearsome tally of kills (he killed like 20 sisters by himself). This game was just a bad matchup for him, I had the advantage from the start. Mission was killpoints, and I managed to win by enough of them to claim a victory.

Game 2: Mech Grey Knights - The guy playing this list knows what he is doing, and is quite good. He has 3 psyfleman dreads, a land raider full of death cultists, a rhino full of death cultists, a 9 man interceptor squad, a psyback w/ henchmen, and a 10 man strike squad in rhino.

Mission was objectives, and fought entirely in nightfight. If your within 12" of an objective, you count as illuminated. The objectives moved every turn by 8d6", minus 2d6 per turn (so 6d6" on turn 2, etc). He put his objective in my deployment zone, and I put mine in my deployment zone. I held everything in reserve so as to not be shot while illuminated.

I came on from my edge, took a few potshots, but 3+ smoke cover is good. (damn GK Librarian). he moved close to my board edge to shoot at me, and did some decent damage. My reserves came in though, and the flamestorm bbq'd all but 1 of his interceptors. He tried to stop it next turn, but failed, and it bbq'd his entire strike squad, librarian included.

I then just moved a razorback off the edge and claimed one of the objectives, while my dread and stormraven stood on the other two, daring him to try to claim them. I this mission handily.

Game 3- Space Wolves! He had 50 Grey Hunters in rhinos, 2 squads of long fangs, and 2 lone wolves.

I basically killed all his transports on turn 1, and he was stuck in his corner. This was an objective game, so I just kept ramming units into his army to hold him there until the game ended, and I held 3 objectives to his 2 objectives, for a minor win in my favor.
