Hi, I'm fairly new to 40k and I was wondering if Black Templars use Sternguard?

In short...no

Long version:
The Templars are not organized like regular Space Marines, their veterans serve as Sword Brethren.
As well, their Codex is older than Sternguard, and as such does not have them in it.

Know thy self. Everything follows this.

The Black Templars are basically a 'run closer so I can hit them with my sword' sort of chapter, fancy ammo and lots of shooting isn't their bag.

If they were like veterans of any other book, the Templar would use like Vanguard, however Sword Brethren are the Black Templar's version of veterans. Now we will see when the new book drops....

No.
As another user said: As they are currently organised BT have their veterans serve in the Sword Brethren.

The new book may or may not change it. Hopefully not since it is something that sets them apart...

Trivial stuff like "tactics" and "supporting fires" are meaningless to the Black Templars.

Black Templars fight like Doritos. Crunch all you want. We'll make more.

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?
