Whats up guys?

Little bit of a ring to throw your hat here with suggestions but heres the deal:

Bloke at my club runs a 10 man unit of Terminators with Thunderhammers (no transport) and the Salamander's IC (I forget the name). Obviously quite a fat little unit. And it is made all the fatter when he brings it to a 1000pt game.

I play Eldar, and as he has no transport, essentially have the plan to be elusive and avoid the unit entirely. A wraith lord with bright lance would just pot shot at it and a fire prism dropping a small template with big dreams.

I do not play a Mechdar list but was wondering how you Eldar generals would take this little challenge on?

My main dilemma comes when the game is killpoints as objectives I can work around.

You have kind of already covered it yourself, you avoid that unit or die. At 1000pts its over half his army in a single very slow unit which can't effect you until it assaults. Not being mech makes things harder as most likely you will have to actually kill them at some point. In a KP game you try and wipe the other half of his army and then avoid losing too many of your own in return by staying out of assault range.

In general Eldar kill Terminators the same way they kill most infantry, with massed S6 shooting. It much easier to bring heaps of high AP shooting and just force him to take 2+ saves, its not that much better than his 3++. They don't have FNP, so Scatter Lasers will be able to trim the unit down given enough time. In closer you can use Guide and Doom to force them to take heaps of saves from your Catapults as well. Once they get below 5 a Fortuned Avatar can potentially deal with them in combat. Bright Lances and Prisms can get lucky and pick one off I guess, otherwise the only unit which can have some success killing large number of Terminators are Dragons, but they don't tend to last long.

Nightspinner. Rending + Dangerous Difficult terrain will slowly whittle them down while making them even easier to avoid. If it's on foot, it'll have a big footprint and a twin-linked large blast is practically guaranteed to hit at least one model, which will get the terrain effects on the unit even if the blast itself does nothing.

I agree with Powerguy. I just force saves on units like that. 60 wounds ought to roughly kill the unit and that's not too hard to get with Scatter Walkers and other S6 volume-of-fire platforms. Slowing them down with a Nightspinner is smart too.

What does your list have in it? What kind of access do you have to massed shooting?

Nightspinners puts an end to that unit. You may also want to introduce them to your to spammed scatter lasers if you have.

There are 2 kinds of Dakka members: People who just think the game and people who actually play the game. Which one are you?

Pretty much what has already been said. That's 590pts of only a single TL Hvy. Flamer for a ranged attack. Deny, deny, deny. Negate, negate, negate. Don't fight it, never let it see combat.

Nightspinner is a good way to nibble at it and slow it down all at once. Once you've taken 5-6 guys off the unit it's not nearly as scary, and it can probably be finished off by a charge from either Banshees or Harles, after you've doomed the unit, of course.

Another way to do it. as has also been mentioned, is to just force him to roll 1's by making him take lots and lots of saves. Scatter Lasers are wonderful at this. A unit of 3 Warwalkers with Scatter Lasers, guided and firing on the doomed unit should on average between inflict 16 to 18 wounds, which translates into 2-3 dead statistically each time they are fired on.

Bladestorming Dire Avengers get similar performance when guided and firing on doomed termies, averaging 21 wounds for a 10 man unit, which should be 3-4 dead termies.

Getting my broom incase there is shenanigans.

Everyone has said it already.

I just shoot at them with guided war walkers. You drop 2-3 a turn and then when they get close you can pile on the small arms fire. When you get them down to a reasonable number you can take them out with your counter assault.
