Going for a traitor legion theme
Thought this was a good rounded list that could claim objective because of the scouting Penal Legion and Sentinals. I love Colonel Straken and there's nothing any of you can say to get me to abandon him but ANYTHING else in this list is up for being torn apart. Looking for a shooty list that is tatically flexible mission wise.

Good to see you holding your ground on Straken.

This many at 500pts is terrifying. My 1850 only plays with 55 men. This could be pretty fun and a good start for a bigger army as you could play em as vets or whatever you want.

I think the numbers are the points cost michael

personaly I'd give straken 2 bodyguards and a chimera...thats 225 points, and i'd like to see who would want to come near that vehicle ;-)

One question I have is why do you have Straken, a guy who fights up close, moves up with the troops providing orders and boosts, sitting in the back with a mortar team who cant move and shoot?

Wouldnt you want him up there in the thick of it with your infantry where he shines? Maybe give his little CCS a Gl or flamer that way he can get up close and wreck stuff?

I dont know, I'm new myself, and I'm running him in a similarly styled 750pts all foot list. I've got him up front with a blob platoon where he can do as much damage as possible, with meltas and GL's so they can mess up whatever they get near. Just an idea, maybe you've got an idea that I dont know about. Have fun with him though, he's an awesome hero/commander for a footslogging guard army!

MrMoustaffa is right, if your actually not going to budge on Straken, then why are you not building a list around him? Straken is damn near worthless in that list.

Straken doesn't want to be in combat where he can be killed, you want him for his aura to effect other troops. You throw that CCS in combat, it will be destroyed by anyone who is compatant at CC, even if you get Bodyguards.

Best unit for him to be around is a proper power blob, after that, maybe penal... but that random roll kills them, as the only effective roll is 5-6 so they get a second CC weapon and Rending. Heck, you would almost be better off with a PW on Vets with shotguns for the same points.

Power blob was pushing the point cap with a properly kitted out CCS to go with Straken, so I dropped it for the Vets. Instead of the Sentinals, you can go a 3rd Vet squad with a PW and 2 flamers with Shotguns, but I thought you might like having some longer ranged firepower instead.

Straken was being used more for his Aura and for a last second huzzah when the enemies do get close. You're right about the mortar though bad idea I'll think about it and come up with a new list by today

There's not much of an option when the alternative elite choices are Ogryns and Ratlings

Ok How about I take out the stormtroopers and put 2 body guard heavy flamer 2 meltas and a plasma gun into the CCS

SuperMcFly, I'd listen to BikTom's list. It's a good list for what your looking for. Metlas are effective against vehicles and heavy infantry (like SM or heavier Eldar) mixed with Straken and his awesome close combat abilities. It looks like a solid list and I'd roll with it.
