Subject: Mini-Mosh for Beginners - How to?

Ladies Love the Vibro-Cannon Operator

Well, the store owner wants me to organize a 40k tournament for beginners in March. Any ideas?
Here is what I have come up with so far:
FOC: 1 HQ and 2 troops are mandatory
Total: 1000 pts
Standard missions.
Any other restrictions useful? Like point restrictions on HQ (not more than 150 pts, so ruling out Eldrad and others), and Elite, FA, HS (each not more than 250 pts).
Thoughts?

Try to discourage net lists, the HQ thing can be abit restrictive, what if they want to bring a kitted out Hive Tyrant or Necron Lord?
I'd say a ratio of troop to something, so 1 troops choice per 2/3 other choices (Hq excluding ofc)
Or just say no SC's if that wouldn't ruin anyones army (Such as HQ unlocks and so on)

I wouldn't put out any restrictions other than the 1 HQ and 2 troops.
At a 1000 points, you're not going to be able to fit in too much craziness.
If it's new players, I'd have the TO pick the game type for each round and have every table play it.
Like Round 1 is Spearhead, Annihilation. Round 2 is Pitched Battle with 1 objective each, and so on. I'd stay away from Battle Missions or other odd games. Just stick to the basics.

This is a good idea too, makes things balanced for everyone. I'd also set up the terrain ahead of time on the tables and make it set for the tourny. It'll help speed things up.
