Hello, I have been out of the Warhammer hobby for years. I just recently picked up the new 40k boxed set and was disappointed by the plastic marines and orks. I was expecting marines equivalent to the plastic ones from the 3rd edition 40k boxed set. My question is, are the other boxed troop sets better detailed and multi part kits like the old 40k marines? Before I go and spend $35-$50 on a few figures I would like to know that they a pose-able and not so static as in the new 40k boxed game. Thanks.

The other kits are all better detailed, and can be posed however you'd like. The starter boxes for 4th and 5th have had simple snap-fit models so people can get into the game easier. There are little boxes of 3-5 snap fit models too, but the general 10 man tactical squad box, dreadnought kits, and so on are the multipart multipose plastics you remember.

Do you mean assault on black reach? The units that come in there are a special type made just for that set with no options that allows new players to learn the rules and assemble the models with a minimum of fuss.

The actual boxes have a ton of bits and very pose-able parts. As long as you get the 10+ man boxes. The 5 man 'combat squad' boxes come with jack squat.

The 5 man combat squad boxes are still multipose multipart plastic kits, they just don't have any options. That only refers to the Chaos Marine Attack Squad and the Space Marine Combat Squad boxes though. The other 5 man kits like the Death Company, Dark Angels vets, and Grey Knights are overflowing with extra bits.
